Gabe...Im sorry bro. I am sorry that I have lost patience with your internet forum.
Under different names, I have tried to post good subjects here in the past, information that would help, topics that should burn like wildfires....BUT to no avail.
For the most part, Gabes goal is obvious......to run a world class tatttoo shop that hosts many mamzing guests that can perform all styles of tattooing. And to run a tattoo website, that features more than enough images and info to get any newbie headed in the right direction, plus a webcommunity for "regulars" to talk about tattoo related issues.
Unfortunately, this site isnt visited by people who are open minded to the bigger picture of tattooing. And the so called tattoo artists who visit this board, with 40+ years experience, well, their responses speak for themselves.
It is just amazing to me....ya know? It is not me who should be giving people respect, IT IS YALL.
If you were 50 years old with tons of experience at a construction site, yet I was a younger more knowleadgeable worker who had been around and helped create tons of buildings and landscapes......IF IT WAS YOU WHO LACKED THE KNOWLEDGE, then YOU SHOULD GIVE THE RESPECT.
I am not trying to sound like I dont have humility.....Ohhh...I do....trust me. I learned a lot of things the hard way as well. But I cant seem to educate you people on the subject of where this board needs to be headed. Personally, I dont want to make internet friends. I dont want to waste time typing any words that arent help or knowledge. In the same sense, I can learn if this board contained issues relating to subjects ON A HIGHER LEVEL.
And whats all this talk about being anonymous?? What can I learn from a guy named TAz or a woman named mamacat if I have no face to attach to their words, and their words are more on the subject of horsing around that helping??
I feel like the kid in class, who ACTUALLY CAME TO LEARN, yet there is no teacher, and the rest of the class is too busy talking and goofing off to learn anything. Its like anarchy.
Ever seen the movie "Stand and Deliver"??? If not, rent it, and in a virtual landscape, it should remind you of this place.
I am no tattoo professor....but.....I got some arguments/discussions that I could particpate in.
Just think about this possibility......WOW.....if this board ran that damn smooth??????
And like Gabe.....Im a admitted "tattoo snob". I look up to a select group of tattooers, but respect anybody who is humble and knows their place in the tattoo world. If you have only been tattooing for 3 years, yet can do amazing stuff, then reguarding the subject of tattoos, I would rather listen to you than somebody with a supposed 100 years of family tattoo experience combined. Make sense.........no???? WHATS WRONG WITH THIS PLACE?????
For example.....lets take a look at "Ambers" comment -notice the quotation marks, nobody knows who in the hell she is in real life, so we will assume it is her real name, and if it indeed is, then GREAT-
She said something to the effect of "no more personal talk....well great....Im leaving then....and the 11o'clock shift FUCKING ROCKS!!!!"
Okay, now, for anybody who is paying attention.....how did that help me? How did it help any of you? If its that damn important, Gabe, why not start dividing the subjects in which you can post. One of them being general TATTOO discussion, one of them being HELP WITH HEALING, one of them being TATTOO ARTIST RECOMMENDATIONS, and the other being NON TATTOO TALK!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is how most other sucsessful forums are conducted, simply, because there is a need for it. You have confusion, like what goes on here.
Other wise it is chaos here, but, out of chaos comes order. So, until order starts, it will remain to be chaotic.
Remember that people.
I know we are not all on the same playing field, and the sad part is, we lost somebody that everybody loved, SIMPLY BECAUSE THERE WAS NO ORDER. And when order was put into effect (showing the portfolio), by then it was too late.
Lessons could be learned from this situations. Everyone needs to not be so onesided........but......Im sure this post will be breezed through and laughed at just like all the other ones I posted.
Well, frankly, I was sick of the bullshit, so I responded. You may have not liked it, you may have disagreed with what I said, but it was TRUTH, valid points.
The sad part is........I doubt this forum will ever see its own potential. Just imagine a PUBLIC sight where tattoo artists post reguarly, and so much intelligent conversation goes on, THEY ARENT SCARED TO POST THEIR REAL NAME.
Imagine a forum where people know their place, and speaking out against a well known tattoo artist who'se work is real and alive on many skins is not prohibited.
Imagine a place where we could learn more about the ART side of tattooing and look at it a little deeper than just "tattoo guns and slingin' ink".
Is this what you are pressing for Gabe?
If not then I am here for the wrong reasons.
This place has became a proverbial dumpster of tattoo talk, with only a bits here and there of information worthy of eating.
I hate digging through garbage.....dont you?

Get out of the dumpster and go to the buffet.
Can't say I remember or paid much attention to any posts by someone named lick my nuts but this person makes some points I find extremely valid and he shows passion for what he wants and believes a tattoo forum should be like or about I suppose. Amen
Yo buddy, I'm very happy to see your passion about all of this, I think it's really cool. But I think you need to chill and stop expecting this to be a classroom. You also gotta realize that a lot of intelligent conversations have taken place, yeah they aren't always about tattoo's, but damn, life isn't just about tattoo's, but art is about life, and you gotta learn from all walks of life.
About Amber's comment. She feels so much less ananymous than some of the people here. Why? Cause I feel like I know her as a real person, she works, she has a life, she has stresses like the rest of us. I've also been able to put face to post cause she was nice enough to post her myspace up here for us to get to know her /that much more/. Likewise, baker has graciously spent his time developing the tattoonow family website, where those who wished can submit their pictures so we can put faces on ya'll.
It's kinda of saddening that most of the new guys want nothing to do with anybody, and don't wanna hear about anything but tattoos. And you know, I think it's cool that you wanna hear more about tats, lets hear more about tats. But don't take out the hearts and souls of the artists and collectors, and admirers. I didn't come here just to see tattoos, I kept coming here to MEET some real tattoo artists. And I have learned SO much from all of them, so something right must be going on. This forum IS NOT broken guys, quit trying to fix it. All I can say is, and not trying to be mean here, is that if you don't like certain posts, don't read them, as the website doesn't revolve around just YOU. Some of us like to talk and get to know eachother, if you don't wanna do that, that's fine, don't participate, but stop getting on us about having a say in things not completely tattoo related. Look man, you're welcome to join us anytime, we're not just that little clique away from the heard :P, we welcome everyone!
I also just wanted to add guys, this site is seeing more tattoo related discussion, which is awsome! I think we can have the best of both worlds here, all it takes a little more involvement and an open mind. Keep postin guys.
Jer
Thanks for the two eductated responses....
I dont want to point out one thing though....getting to know each other is fine. And yes, if you go through all the posts with misleading BS in them, you may find a gem of tattoo information. BUT THATS NOT NESSACARY.
Things should be catagorized, as everything in the real world is. Relating to somebody or wanting to hear their work story....IS FINE! But its not my cup of tea, and so, the topics should not be misleading.
Maybe Im just dreaming.
And another thing....if there was a bunch of guys bringing up discussions about Filip Leus work and what they saw him do at a convention the other day..........THEN HEY.........I probably would want to relate to these people. Because they share MY passion for tattoos. But MY passion for tattoos doesnt lie in new skool shiny crap, it doesnt lie in hearing about the same topics over and over, and it surely doesnt lie in hearing about a waitresses life who knows LESS about tattoos than my newphew does.
Point blank.....I come up here to talk TATTOOS and ART. If the commonground is there, THEN we can be friends. If you seem to be an intelligent fella that I can share information with and learn from....THEN WE CAN BUILD.....otherwise....I dont feel the need to speak to a bunch of kids up here who are still trying to decide their first tattoo and what colors they want in it......because Ive been there and DONE THAT.....and besides, I talk to enough kids like that in the real world, and they usually dont even take good advice....so who cares?
Not me.
I want to hear about incredible tattoos..(and art by tattoo artists).
I guess Im in the wrong place.
OOOPS.....I meant; "I DO want to point out one thing though"
Well if youre inclined to read every fucking word on this forum man than there is no doubt that you are going to come across things not related to tattooing. And again man you make it seem like all this is here just for you. and you seem passionate about tattoos about tattoos and whatnot but it just seems like your more passionate about yourself. This forum is a great place to learn about tattoos and the PEOPLE behind them.I dont mind seeing people writing about things not tattoo related because you know what no one forces me to read every post. i read the ones im interested and for the most part i always find the answer im looking for. I personally like how this forum has a group of people who know and enjoy each other for the most part as it adds some humor and fun to the board. I want to learn to but im also intelligent enough to find the information i need and sitting on ones ass and simply waiting for the knowledge and information that one needs to come right up to them and bite them in ass is downright lazy and stupid.
Then why don't you start posting about tattoos and art? While you make some points most of what you post is what you don't like about this forum.
ok, so, i kinda have the inside track to why this forum works tha way it does (programming wise) and just how much work is included in fixin it and frankly my daughter and i would like to keep seeing gabe the 2 hours a week that we seem to get now soooooooo, until the day he can make all those subjects etc why don'y we all just start typing:
O/T in front of new off topic threads
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
what-da-ya-think?
maybe as a community we can generate a list of headers that can be posted as an admin post at top so that before things can get sorted out WE can take responsibility to do it ourselves . . . .
No one asked me for my picture , damn pricks.
sorry
ya know I think that what works for me is not reading the stuff i'm not interested in. I don't necessarily care for arabic tattoos, I'm european, that's just my thing I guess. And i don't think most of us have problemsNOT reading the threads that do not interest us or do not seem relative to the guessed at mission satement of TattooNow.
I think the problems mainly seems to stem from multiple thread after thread about stuff most would deem irrellevent. Basically this whole business between taz and Gabe. Well it's been made into a public thread by so damn many people you start to get leary about even clicking on a new thread with an obscure subject title ya know what i'm saying? A few weeks of that and it seems everyone, Taz and Gabe, included tend to lose sight of why any of us are here.
I just like talking to the people that are as enthusiastic about the next new thing in the industry or their own personal next tattoo , or first or continued session on a large piece. Like that pneumatic machine that I saw on the Nick Baxter site. crazy right. I wanna see self feeding tubes next haha that'd be fantabulous. or maybe like some mixing devices , besides maybe a dremel drill by another name. The cool stuff. Yeah the new art, yeah the new application methods , and of course always the respect given to the old ways that gave birth to the new styles. I.E. true freehand(yeah it exists) not that anyone's disputed it I guess. But in my opinion that's just as cool to me as these uber complex patterns Gabe spoke of. It's all rellevent to the heart and soul of this art form I suppose but there's always a better way to communicate with one another.
Somethine like confrontation is inevitable but battle is optional I think?
P.S. not that i'm a tree hugger
P.P.S. but god bless you tree huggin dirt worshippers too
"""""""""What can I learn from a guy named TAz or a woman named mamacat if I have no face to attach to their words, and their words are more on the subject of horsing around that helping??""""""""""
No face? Where is your face posted? I'm not sure you can or cannot learn a lot from me, however, when I sign on and see and angry flamming post written by "LICK MY NUTZ" I'm sure the hell not going to respond with any serious respect? Would you?
I'm not a tattoo artist, but I do have the pleasure of meeting and working with many top tat artists here in Los Angeles. I do not name drop to prove "I'm a serious collector", but I've been involved with tats for enough years to have learned quite a bit.
As far as your contractor analogy, my dh does have 25 years of building under his belt, and while there are many newcomers moving up in any field, it's a common understanding to show some respect to the men (and women) who have gone before and put the time in. Would you call Mark Mahoney a hack because he's older? Bob Robert's? Ed hardy? I think you need to give some respect to the "old Timers" .
Glad you changed your name. Maybe I can take your words seriously in the future.
Kmama, good point on OT. Some subjects are not clear.

"I dont want to waste time typing any words that arent help or knowledge."
too late son.
the air powered machine on nick baxter's site is called the pneuma. created by carson hill. check out www.carsonhilltattoos.com for more info. i got to see one in action when mike devries was here doing a guest spot at off the map. interesting little machine. sounds like the dentist office except a lot less annoying.
as far as this message board goes, kim is right...it takes a very long time to code intricate multi-tiered message boards, and at this point we just don't have enough time. maybe some day.
