Just checked out the newly opened eastside ink tattoo studio yesterday, and it's a really nice shop, with some very skilled tattooers..Andrea,Patrick,and Joshua, formerly of Macdougal Tattoo opened this place up..The shop is at 97 avenue B (between 6th & 7th sts.)212.477-2060 Their website isn't up yet,but it will be-www.eastsideinktattoo.com Check out some of the artists personal sites.. www.patrickconlon.net www.monkeymojo.com www.joshualord.com www.myspace.com/bangbangtattoos
I remember seeing their portfolios and meeting them at a few conventions. Good to see they have their own place!
East Side Ink was one of the premier shops before they legalized tattooing in the city..The shop was originally on E.2nd St.between Ave A+B You had to call from a phone booth across the street from the shop, and they would tell you where the shop was..When i walked down to the basement studio, there was custom drawings all over the walls, and like 5 artists stations set up..Andrea sold the shop to another artist, and they ended up moving to Clinton St..It just didn't have the same vibe as the original shop, and the shop didn't make it..Andrea,Josh,&Patrick moved on to Macdougal Tattoo, and worked there for some years, until the opening of the new East Side Ink..It's cool to have such an important shop in the history of tattooing in Manhattan re-open again..
