Once again, I will raise the question, why does this seem wrong?
maybe because you have to be eccentric and fun etc etc and get through basically an audition process in order to obtain art by the staff? i mean really. if you're not good for tv ratings then just forget it! ;)
unlike a normal shop where ideas flow freely and you don't have to be an amazing/popular character in order to participate and be decorated.
i guess i'm naive, i've seen only a few episodes -- but i always assumed that these were 'real' appointments... not people that had to go through casting calls & auditions. oops
I guess everyone looks for their 15 seconds of fame somehow.... But seriously why don't they just label it as another "non" reality show. By the looks of it that is what it has become.... To me that's kind of fucked up. We don't do casting calls for the people that walk through our doors. We don't tell people that there reasoning for a tattoo isn't good enough to take priority over something better and then ask them to come back later.
makes you wonder how many times they have to stop filming and have the "customer/actor" walk through the door just right?
ITS TELEVISION GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ITS FOR ENTERTAINMENT....THATS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sure they call them "reality shows"...but anyone one with any kind of a logical mind knows that these shows do not even approach reality....T
I understand that Taz. But while these guys are sitting back waiting on a committee to cast there next seasons "clients" you and the gang at the shop are busting your asses day in and day out at the shop. Sure the shop is booked solid, and yes there are walk-ins everyday, but that is because you guys EARNED it.
I'm not taking anything away from the group down there and their ability to produce good work but the image just doesn't sit right with me.... It just seems to be getting out of hand. How many times has someone posted on this thread about the shop in Miami with the impression that the shop was going to be everything that it seemed on TV and when they actually went there, it wasn't that big of a deal and it left a strange taste in their mouths. Like I said, nothing against any of the artists, I'm sure this is a dream come true for some of them, but seriously, casting calls? WTF?
I agree with you 100% on this pal!!...Hell "Miami Ink"isn't even the real name of the shop!
Ah well!...I still wish them well...especially that poor little Yoji guy!
Have you ever seen me treat ANY of my people like that guy was treated?....Thats why all these people keep sayin " I am not gonna be treated like shit to apprentice!"
you also have to remember that they work outside of shooting, and if they aren't shooting usually anyone on the show isn't even there. So, yea, for the show itself it may all be like an audition, but outside of the show there is a business there and they do tattoo people without auditions.
I also understand that Ducky, but when you say "they also do tattoo without auditions." who's "they?" Now I am speaking specifically of the shop in Miami. It's a hoax, seriously.... All smoke and mirrors. But the gimic works because people from all over see this show, see the work that is being produced out of there and think to themselves, "Hey, I think it would be cool to go down there and have some work done." But when they arrive half of the known crew is no where to be found and MAYBE one or two might be there but good luck getting tattooed by them. But there are the other guys that you don't see on TV. Hope they do just as good of job. (I'm sure they do but you see my point?)
If you were to walk into that shop at this very point in time, who would be there? Would you want to have them put a tattoo on you? Why? You haven't seen anything they have done? .... There's always the casting call auditions.... Better polish up on your creative story telling skills, get a tan, and get your hair cut and highlighted, and don't forget to lose those extra vanity pounds that the camera might ad. Oh and that cute tank top you like; better find one a size smaller because your boobs aren't big enough. Or maybe I should hit the gym .... lights, camera, action, everyday Tueasday at 8/9 central only on TLC.
I thought i had put into my post that if you go in there when they rn't shooting, you are hard pressed to get a tattoo from one of the people you see on TV. That group of people are television stars now...i don't understand why people (like my will-be mother and sister-in-law *sigh*) think that they would spend their time ouside of shooting doing just random walk-ins and shit. Personally, the only people i would want a tattoo from that i've seen on that show would be Kat or Garver. Kat if i ever wanted a portrait done, and i'd LOVE to have Garver do my traditional sailor tattoos.
Just, while you may not agree with it in the tattooing world...the Miami Ink that you see on TV is NOT the tattooing world...it's the television world. So yes, only the people who have dramatic stories and look good on camera will get on there. 90% of the women are the tanned, "stupid blonde", anorexic looking girls. BUT, 90% of the women on TV are like that, and that's how they get ratings. So, it's not really fair to get upset at the fact that there are casting calls when it's a television show. Casting calls to get a tattoo on a regular day? yea, problem. Television show? should be a give in.
And, yes, i know Garver and Kat are only down there for the shooting, and, if i were to ever persue a tattoo from them, would be traveling to Cali for it or waiting for a guest spot around here. :P
I believe Chris and Kat work out of LA normally. Kat also works out of Dallas with her husband Oliver Peck... Darren Brass owns a studio in waterbury CT where a friend works... I heard Yogi was actually an artist somewhere and not really apprenticing...
I dont feel bad for anyone who believes TV and gets burned going down the Maimi... TV has obviously has NOTHING to do with reality... Its 2006, we know better!
The thing that annoys me the most is the folks who think that the crew there is by far the best. Someone actually posted that they needed to go down there cause there was no one in New England that good once... jeese! Hopefully the people who get turned onto tattooing by the TV will eventually do their homework and realize theres a whole mess of fantastic artists out there, and newer and better ones poping up every day!
That said, if you want on TV, then you know how to audition!
But Gabe- Studying and researching is a waste of time, when TV does it all for you!
(BTW kids, that was me being sarcastic, so don't email me thinking it was serious like on another post)
No good artists in New England?...Well I gotta say that that is about the dumbest thing I have ever heard on here!...The New England area is the new LA for top notch tattoos ...My god!! Just look at the greats working in your neck of the woods!...I have heard it all now!!!...T
yeah, that was someone on this message-board... go figure
I've never seen this thing, but I can only imagine it's a real horror (whore) show....................................Sounds like the Jackass of Tattooing! Snot on EmptyV, is it?
Get ready guys, soon fuckers are gonna be coming to you wanting the tattoos THOSE guys are sportin'.
TCE
I'm not slamming the show OR the artists....Kat is AMAZING (and oh so HOT!!) ...Chris Garver who I have known for years is a great artist and a good guy...BUT I DO kinda poke fun at the people who watch the show and think its all REAL!!...Kinda like the two idiots I had to throw out of a club a while back...Know what they were fighting about?....Whether wrestling was REAL!!!
JESUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Too much testosterone!! Guys need to get in touch with their feminine side; shave your legs.........................get some pink in that tattoo.....................get a vasectomy.............become a prison bitch...........oh, did I say that out loud!?
TCE
what they are not there so when we come to the us no point going to miami then what a load off shit that is and yes i know it,s tv so that means OCC is all bullshit to .a least in oz when we make a show most off it deals with real people so why all the crap why not make a real show instead with real people and show how hard it is out there to run a shop. anyway all the best ANZACBOB.......................ps i doubt if this post will ever get on your web site because we live so far away and most yanks don,t even know about anyone else in the world .
Wow! I'm from the same part of the world and still have no idea what this means. I have no idea what you "Seppos" are gonna make of it.
Yes, I'm just embarrassed ANZACBOB doesn't know how to punctuate. How does one spell P-A-S-S-I-V-E A-G-G-R-E-S-S-I-V-E?
haha. seppos. cute. how about you. convict.
Convicts. Geez, your originality astounds me. I'd rather be founded by convicts and whores than by puritans and bible bashers. Means we know how to party.
GOING TO A CASTING CALL IS A WASTE OF TIME. I WENT AND WAS DISAPPOINTED. I drove over 5 hours to a casting appointment. The casting office is 4 floors up with grungy teeny bopper people for the interviewers. Noone is friendly. It was a waste of my time, gas money, tolls, and I frustrated the entire 15 minute interview. I am 38 years old and felt like I was too old by the way I was treated. I look younger than my age. I could pass for late 20's.
I have 14 tats already, all done and well paid for.
Don't even bother going to a casting. You will waste your time. I already know they wont pick me because of the dumb questions they ask you on video.
i did"nt know the process to get a tat from kat was gonna be so hard , I want my two boys as cherubs and i have never seen any one do such incredible work.we were in miami a year ago we went to the shop but no one was there other then regular staff they gave me a crazy quote for a flower tatoo that my 10yr old made me it was the size of a plum they said $475.00 , they must have thought just a tourist stick it to her oh and when i showed them the tatoo one guy said what the hell is it ,he was really cocky thought his shit don"t stink any way if the show is gonna succeed they better change the way they treat people , alot of kids admire the artist work, my one son is a fantastic artist so ami change it up or you may have bad luck.
I always wondered if Yoji makes any $$ for appearing on the show (when he was still real green) i am thinking he got something.
Just so ya know , Yoji has actually been tattooing for years and owns his own studio....its television man....reality tv doesn't mean its REAL!!
Rosie, the show is already amazingly successful! See the people viewing the show actually think its real, then there are the people like you who actually visit the shop and find out what its all about. You could have walked down the street a block or two and got a better job and paid less! Sorry you had a bad experience!
Canada has some bad ass tattoo artist up there, and some great conventions that attract the best!
OK I AGREE WITH ALL THESE PEOPLE BECAUSE I WAS BORN AND RAISED IN HOLLYWOOD FLORIDA. I DECIDED TO GO HOME FOR THE SUPER BOWL THIS YEAR AND NO ONE FROM THE SHOP WAS EVEN THERE THEY SAID THEY WILL BE BACK IN A FEW WEEKS. I CAN NOT WAIT THAT LONG. WELL THERE WENT MY DREAMS.
If you are going to Maimi Ink, then get Joe Capobianco to do your tattoo... he will be there this spring.

Anyone seen Man of the Year? Not a great movie, but Lewis Black makes a good obeservation about legitimacy and TV. A redneck arguing "the holocaust didn't happen" can look as legitimate as a renowned historian with degrees out the wazoo... who knows very well it DID happen.
Sometimes by making the playing field too accesible and level, we only succeed in sucking the legitimacy out of the game. I only hope people are educated enough to eventually do some research, as Gabe said.
Joe's a great guy. I hope they don't make him out to have a rockstar attitude (on TV) when he goes. I'm sure he will show 'em a thing or two.
I Love the show and watch it all the time. I would love to have Chris give me my first Tattoo. I have always wanted one but never found someone that I liked that I would trust enough to put one on me.I really don't have much a story to tell I am 26 and on my 2nd. marrage and I have 4 kids 2 from my first husband and 2 from this husband.Something that I love to do is ride our Harley .I don't get to ride very much but i love to fill the wind in my hair.I am just a everyday house wife that stays home and takes care of the house and kids. It would be so great to be able to have this chance to get and do something for my self that I want. I always put my family first and they get before me and I just think it is time for me to get something that i have always wanted.Well thanks for your time.

I tell you what to all you people who think oh they are just stars and they don't need to really work anymore.. BOGUS... Have you all seen the show inked with hart and hunington. They do great work and people stand in lines for hours to get a tattoo at that shop no smoke and mirrors there just pure tallent.
I am hell diso that it takes auditions for the show! i came on the net to try and fing their web site to get some tat ideas now im to cut...WTF miami ink lettin us all down!
Sure enough me and hubby went to Fl. for our 10 yr Anniversary. He wanted to go to the studio to get tattoos, I told him we wouldnt be able to go in but he wanted to go anyway. So we got there, and there were two girls outside preventing people from going in because they were filming a show, she said if we wanted a tattoo we could come back at 9pm when the night crew took over, or if we wanted to be tattooed by someone on the show we had to go online and apply. Apply for a tattoo? The good thing was Nunez happened to walk out of the shop while we were there and I got a pic with him. We couldnt take flash photos of the studio and you couldnt park in front of it either, just keep walking! Even though you know its not real,It was a disappointment to see how fake it really was.

Hey, this is a shameless plug... If you have flown or are thinking of flying to Miami Ink for a tattoo vacation, you might want to consider flying to New England next October where 60+ of the worlds finest will be tattooing in one very nice resort in the hills of western mass during peak leaf season. rooms are only $109 a night, and the 2 and 3 bedroom condos are really really nice (some even have bunk beds!).
