Hey everyone,
For a while now, i've been admiring runic types of symbols to get a tattoo. This would be my first one, so naturally, i'm quite nervous about it. The one I want is called the "Aegishjalmur". Heres a link with a picture: http://www.sunnyway.com/runes/tattoos.html (just go down a tiny bit and you'll see it). Anyone think this is a dumb idea? Personally I think it's pretty cool, and means something cool, and really, thats all that shold matter. But, like I said, this wold be my first and i'd just like to see what you "experianced" folks have to say about it. It would most likely be on my upper arm, near my shoulder.
Thank you very much.
Opinion on this Runic.

I was told a long time ago that getting Rhunic symbols was bad luck. For what it's worth, I know a guy that has them, and his life absolutely sucks.
Haha well, thank you for the input I suppose. I really dont believe in luck or anything like that, so it's kind of a non issue to me.
I think is seems pretty cool, but my job is to suggest that everytime somebody suggests some little symbol for their first tattoo, I'm here to say, well,... let's think about this a minute... cause once you get it done, it's kind of addictive. And then you are going to want to add on. And then you are going to wish you'd thought about it more... And then you are going to wish you had gone to a custom artist and told him what it was you thought were so cool about the runes in the first place. Is it the mystic factor? Norse factor? Cause ultimately, you may wish that you had done a really nice, complex creative, cool piece of art on that prime space where you just stuck a little symbol. So for me, when I think of Norse Heritage, I start thinking of those fucking cool viking ships, the way that viking art has that almost celtic crossover where the dragons look like dogs, or how about some of those viking gods like Thor, or Odin, or Loki, or Freya? I just wonder if some of that stuff would make a better tat than a little symbol. Anyway, food for thought.
I thought about what you said as well. I did actually look up some stuff on Odin a while back when I started thinking about getting one, and thats how I found out about these runes. I dunno, I don't think i'd ever become extremely into tattooing (You never know though, haha) to the point where it would suck to not have that spot.
What do I like about them? Well, im northern Europeon, so it would reflect my heritage, and i think they have cool meanings. But you do make an excellent point and it's a concern ive been thinking about.
You could do some really great Celtic stuff too- it's representitave to much of Northern Europe, Irish, Scottish, Nordics, Swedes, etc, and it does carry alot of history behind it.
Trust me on this one bud. When you go through the experience of your first one, you are going to be a bit addicted. I know you say that you're not the type, but no one is. Ya just gotta experience it to know what I mean. What sucks is that I can't explain it to you, but it changes your whole personality. Your gonna look in the mirror and see someone different, and you are gonna like that person. And at that point, you are gonna say. "Damn. I shoulda gone bigger!" (lol)
Haha, y'know, I do believe you. I have friends who got one and got more very quickly. I can imagine it must be very cool. I do have three ideas though, all with the "rune" theme. I think though, if i do get this one (the one I want) at the top of my upper arm, there would still be room left down my arm for more if I wanted it. plus, I got my whole back... ; )
