pain, swelling and difficulty in walking after tattoing

Hi All, I had a medim large tattoo done just above the foot two days ago. The next morning after the tattoo, my ankle and the area around the tatto turned red and swollen badly. also, iam finding it very difficult to walk even a little, once i starts walking the pain doesnt remain anymore but when i sit or sleep and after when i try to stand up the pain becomes worst.....i am also noticing little high temprature in the place where tattoo was done, but i dont think it as a sign of infection because my tattoo is doing well and my artist did it with all the necessary precautions of cleanlines..I also had a teatnus shot done one day before tattooing.......What should i do to reduce the pain? Should I try to take rest for Gym? Iam so much worried plzzzzzz help........

had the same thing with mine i took a couple days off of work, it got better after about 4 to 5 days.

Take some ibuprofen (Advil).

Yea, I just got a decent sized piece on my leg and had the same reaction. It's been about a week now, and everything is fine. Elevate your foot and put some ice on it to help with the swelling.

I had this happen with the piece that starts on my calf and wraps to the top of my foot. I went to the doc, who put me on keflex and told me to lotion my tat, wrap in with saran wrap, then wrap it in an ace bandage, and keep it elevated. It had been swelled up for almost a week, and after this the swelling went down in a day.

DO NOT use lotion and smother the tattoo like the last guy said, unless you're more concerned with some temporary swelling, then having your tattoo heal right.

I had the same thing too. My ankle swelled bad. It even went to my toes. I had to take a couple of days off work too. Had to keep it elevated and continued with the aftercare. It eventually went away. I got my tattoo about 10 days ago and I am still a bit swollen but the pain is completely gone.

I just had a tattoo done just above my ankle about 5 days ago. The swelling started right under my ankle and within the last 2 days has moved down into my foot. I can't step on it and its very painful. It also hurts more when i first start walking than it does after i've been on it for a while. I went to the doctor today and had an x-ray done. Theres no fracture or anything, but they think i have an infection in the bone so i was prescribed keflex. We'll see how it goes.

i would highly recomend taking an ibuprofen and an anti inflamatory the ankle and and foot are a painful area to get a tattoo
