Why dont you want to go to another city? The tattoo will be there forever. I dunno anyone great in San Antonio. Austin and Dallas have great artists and conventions. Here is a link to some panther images

Jay Strange is awesome. Robert Garcia is in Austin and is great. Do a search for Texas in the message board archives for more recommendations. And yes, in the end, get whatever tattoo you want whatever size you want. Trust your tattoo artist's recommendations, though, because they are experts on how tattoos look on your body and often if they tell you a tattoo will look better bigger, its because it would. But in the end, get what you want any way you want it, its your tattoo!

I have an idea. Wait until you know what you want. Asking strangers on an internet forum of what you should get is surely a decision that you'll regret. NOBODY NEEDS A TATTOO, so you shouldn't give yourself a deadline if you're unsure.

At the risk of starting a whole lotta shit over this one....to begin with, there really is no such cat as a 'black panther', in reality what is commonly called a black panther is actually a black leopard or black jaguar. The only true 'black panthers' are a black militant group from the '60's who, to put it mildly, did not have a lot of love for the white race (I am NOT a racist, I'm just stating the FACTS) Admittedly, the tattoo has been around forever and can be done great, has been used as a cover-up for a long time, etc., but it really is not a 'black panther'. Now, on what I know will be alot touchier issue, I personally do not agree with the view that anyone should get whatever they want, whereever they want it and/or however they want it. I KNOW I'm going to get a lot of flak on this but I just don't/can't go along with that idea. I know there are tattooers out there that will do anything, anywhere, no matter how inappropriate for the person or placement or how totally stupid the concept is, with little, if any regard for the problems or ridicule it may cause that person later in life. Sometimes it's just for the money and of course I've heard the rationalization that if you don't do it, someone else will, personally, I think that's bullshit and/or an excuse for someone more concerned about making money from tattoos than someone concerned about The Art of Tattooing and the responcibility that I believe SHOULD be part of it. I realize I'm getting old and I'm a fucking dinasaur in today's tattoo world and I realize I lose alot of money by not doing whatever, wherever, etc., and that alot of those who do are making more money than I am but I don't give a shit about that, even now that there are so damned many people doing tattoos that anyone can get whatever, whereever, no matter how stupid, ill-thought out and/or with no thought as to what people are going to say about that tattoo, the placement of that tattoo or how their going to get a decent job due to it being in such a visable place. Personally, there are alot of things I refuse to tattoo on clients and places on the bod I will not work on, mostly based on the kind of tattoos I've had people come in wanting covered up or seeking a referal to have it removed and I KNOW I'm not the only one that gets that. I have a sign in my studio that states...'This is not Burger King, you DON'T get it your way, you get it MY way, the Right way or you don't get it here', Not because I'm some arrogant asshole (dispite what some might think) but because I have a sincere respect for the ART of Tattooing AND the consequences it can/will have on that persons life....Doc

To Dr. John, that post sounded a little cranky, but you know what? I think there's a lot to be said for what you just said. I can heavily see your points. Nice to add another cranky old fart to the list of people I like. Gabe throws down with a sense of humor and such finally. Up till now, he's been just a mediator. The birdies thing killed me. And finally to the poster, I think a guy with a black panther on your hip seems a little gay. There is nothing wrong whatsoever with being gay. I am not gay (holy shit, right now, believe me there have been times when I wish I WOULD have been, but my taste in clothing and furniture is nowhere near good enough) I have lots of gay friends and love them dearly, so nothing wrong with being gay. But I'd think about it a little if you don't want to be perceived as gay, or at least if you are going to do it, don't be one of those handsome-boy modeling school graduate chest shaver types with a panther on your hip. Sorry. That just reaks of gayness to me for some reason. Again, not that that's wrong... I mean hell, you'd probably never have to pay for a drink again!!
