What do you think a pirate ship tattoo on ur side below ur arm and above ur hip on the right side means??? im doing it cuz my brother commited suicide and i think its a way of showing he has moved on from one world to the next...he's always loved pirate ship and wat not.. lemme know

Other nationalistic tattoos are common in the navies of the world, often including that nation’s flag or animal symbols. A FULL-RIGGED SHIP shows the seaman has sailed around Cape Horn. A DRAGON shows the seaman has traveled to China. A SHELLBACK TURTLE denotes a seaman who has crossed the equator. A SHARK is a common sailor tattoo, meaning the seaman takes on the tough characteristics of the animal. WOMEN were common motifs, either representations of mothers, wives or girlfriends back home or exotic women (e.g. HULA GIRLS) from ports the seaman had visited. SWALLOWS are important maritime tattoo symbols. The birds are known both for migrating long distances and returning to the same areas every year. Thus, a swallow tattoo means both the completion of a 5000 nautical mile voyage, and the hope of a safe return home. Swallows were commonly tattooed facing one another on the chest, one when 5000 miles has been completed, and another when 10 000 miles had been completed. NAUTICAL STARS symbolize the North Star, a star commonly used for celestial navigation. This symbol is found on maps and charts, and indicates a guide to show the way home. A HEART with DAGGER can symbolize betrayal or courage in the face of misfortune. Pirates would sometimes sport tattoos featuring typical pirate flag symbols, such as SKULLS, SKELETONS, HOURGLASSES (symbolizes time running out for the pirate ship’s victims) and SWORDS. .....Now walk the plank and to Davy Jones locker with ya! Bump....just because I'm bored....

My grandfather had two sailor tattoos he was in the Navey. He had an anchor and a naked hula chick. When he died about 10 years ago they consisted of 2 big black blobs. You couldn't make out anything just the size which I am sure wasn't even correct because through he years he put on and took off weight. I told myself at 16 when he died that I would never got a tattoo because when I turn 70 I would hate black blobs. I hope that now a days tattoo technology is much stronger then it was back when he got his tatts. I believe it was when he was close to the age of 18...so we are looking at 70 some odd years ago. I am also pretty sure he got his tatts on a whim and never really took care of them. I on the other had see tattoos as more than just ink in your skin. I am currently waiting my first tattoo which is going to be a 5 month waiting process. Its already been a month so I am well on my way. Sept is the guys first opening and I feel just fine about waiting till then. Any ideas on how long todays tattoos will last if taken care of? I know all tattoos age with the body but how long will they really last?

With the improvments in pigments and equipment a properly executed tattoo that is pampered with plenty of sunscreen and moisture will last a lifetime! What are ya getting Agent 5556?...Who is doing your work?... Please Email a pic of your tattoo when ya get it done!!!Thanks for your post!...TAz
