Keep your eyes open on the tattoo convention circuit-there is a tab above to click on for updates on the conventions. Many times, the Borneo Headhunters work the NYC convention, which is not too far for you. It's usually in May or June, also, there are some Japanese guys doing it the traditional way as well with the push-rod technique. Good Luck!
try calling this shop
Body Armor Tattoo & Body Piercing
(269) 552-9100
3101 South Westnedge Avenue
Kalamazoo, MI 49008
the artist I have read about is Black Jack and if you look up the shop on google I think it brings you to some of the stuff he has done and it is what you are looking for I am pretty sure
Ok, hands down, Cory Ferguson is probably one of the best tribal artists in the world. If you feel like taking a trip to Canada, he's your guy. I've seen good work before but i have an original piece by Cory and it took First Place Tribal at Marked For Life in Florida this year and a Best Tribal award in the Cincinnati Tattoo Expo as well.
What more proof do you need?!
You can find him at www.oakvilleink.com or
www.corytattoos.com
Good luck
"originality is guaranteed within the origin" lol not sure how to translate it word by word, but it sounds about right. so in other words, if you want an authentic polynesian tat, go to the polynesian islands. your best bet, Samoa. but i heard its a very dangerous place. better to fly to American Samoa, ask around public areas, and good luck.
i got mine done by the samoans a few years back. unfortunately the artist "tufuga" died about 7 months ago. he DID however mention a shop he wanted to open in New Zealand.
may God guide you on your quest, friend......seriously.
if your looking for a good polynesian tat, look up tricia allen! she tattoos all over the states and does conventions everywhere. i would highly recomend getting a tat from this lady if you can get hold of her. otherwise if your going to travel to an island, samoa is quite safe and there is a few people on upolu that do it and are easy to find. i got a taulima done there and didnt have any hassles. even try james samuela fom moorea tattoos in tahiti. your options are countless if you want to travel.
or if you want custom designs sent out... Micheal Lothian sunsetstudio in australia. the polynesian tattoo factory in hawaii!! man just do your research and it will come to you.
