Here is my portfolio I started for an apprenticeship. Please tell me if you think I have what it takes. Only reason I'm posting and asking is because I know I will get the honest feedback that I need. If you see something I could change or improve please let me know. Thanks for taking the time to look.
Portfolio for apprenticeship

Uh, I've seen the first one on tattoodles for a long time now and I've seen it tattooed lots of times. Fraud.
How's that for honest feedback?
All of my drawings are from tattoo flash, all I'm doing is trying to see if I can draw out free hand different tattoo designs. This is similar to taking an art class and the instructor asks you to find a painting from a master artist from any time period, and try to duplicate the painting. I'm not claiming the designs as my own, I'm trying to draw what I see. I'm working on perpspective, depth, and just an overall new type of style that I'm not used to. Thanks for your input.

yes the sparrow is a comon flash so fucking what (gina) i like it looks good so far as for the eye try not to do such detail in tattoo tose tiny lines will bleed together eventually.the biggest thing i see needing work is your waves. but how many ways can a wave be drawn lol they need to be more relaxed bigger and more fingers (tips) on them throw some bubbles in there also head to your nearest hobby lobby or art supply store and get some tornelli pencils (blendingpencils) this will produce a smooth blend for you . keep drawing and dont let the snide ass remarks from self centerd people get too ya stay focused take what all say find the good in it and trash the fucking rest.one thing im damm sick of is everyone hating on others.i dont give a shit if your mario barth or just starting if youre open to constructive critisim and help then stick to it.christ the artist im currently with has been inking 30 years and like he and i both say
when you know all there is to tattoo art then youre in the grave untuil then you will always learn.
I'm not hating on anyone. The fact remains, the original post said nothing about the designs not being original. Had I not seen the designs before, I might think he had good creative ideas...but, alas, they are not his. It was dishonest wether it was intentional or not, period.
With that out of the way, if you drew those from eye then you did a good job...a great job even. And I think what you're doing will /is helping you greatly. But I think your next task should be working on original designs to create a portfolio that you would actually present to a tattoo shop - a portfolio full of original, custom pieces of work. I mean, on a personal level, isn't that where you eventually want to take your art anyway?
Another suggestion I have would be to buy a good graphite or charcoal pencil set. It will completely change the look of your drawings. You can only create so much depth with a #2 pencil and while you've done well, they will become much more dynamic. :)
Good luck!
very well put and great info GINA and i humbly apologise to you. it is just lately ive been reading and seeing so much negative replys its just getting old.i do agree with some custom art also it would be very impressive to see someone come into the shop with that. look at flash and alter it make it your own before ya know it youre pouring out ideas of your own. i defintely see some potential here for sure. again GINA i do apologise.respectfully. seems like so many artist have forgoten that word and how much it is the core to tattoo art. so keep drawing mate
Hey thanks! No worries at all, I hear what you're saying. :)
Thanks to both of you, I should have stated in the first entry that these were not original ideas. Great input and I will try from here on out to create my own flash ideas. Thank you both so much for replying and I will keep working on my portfolio and hopefully have an apprenticeship one day.
Thank you,
Mark
Hey erlich,
I agree 100% with the waves, thanks for the different ideas on how to make those better. I'm going online today to look up different type of waves.
Thanks again for taking the time to look at my work.
