PAPER!!!!!!!!!!! I'm such a smartass!!!!!
grapefruit
Chickens,turkeys...pigskin
Oh yeah...and CORPSES
crack heads and bums give them $5 and they'll let you pratic all you want.
LOL LOL just kidding.
Somebody's "OldSchool"!
somebody's a dickhead
somebody should relax!
Somebody should be drawing instead of wasting time on the internet!
I know you were kidding ,but its true.....if your client knows your a scratcher and knows you have no idea what your doing ......and still wants to let you practice ..then whats the problem? ...Just dont lie to anybody about what you really are.
Let everyone know that you are a hack and want to fuck thier skin up so that you can learn a new trade.
But please, buy an autoclave and learn to use it properly,if you are serious about this line of work ........its the least you can do.
i totally agree with you.that's my next purchase.i have friends who have faith in me and i did my first one last night.it turned out pretty good but i'll know for sure when it heals.i'd never try or tell anyone i could do something if i couldn't.i do respct the art and don't want to contribute to the negatives.too bad i didn't have more help.
although i guess if you used 100% disposable tubes and needles ....what would you need a autoclave for?
Maybe to clean nalgene bottles?
...anything else?
So maybe the autoclave is less important than full knowledge of sterilization techniques.....cross contamination prevention...etc.
See if your local health department offers a class, or anywhere else you can think of.
thanks for the advice i'm trying to find some classes.i'll probably have to go to the city.is there online courses you know about or are they recomended.i'm still paranoid about contamination to cords and my guns even though i use disposibles.i wipe them with spray 9 (a chemicle that kills alot of diseases and germs)and soak what ican then wash off the spray 9.after that i steam my gun parts for 30 minutes.until i get an autoclave it's all i can do.
ok first, there are practice skins that can be readily purchased, pig skin is another good alternative, i would not recomend using a chicken, firstly chicken shin is by nature nothing like human skin, and secondly you will contaminate your equipment with Salmonella.
Grapefruits are excellent and inexpensive practice mediums.
Second, I personally feel that disposable tubes are an inferior product, with the disposable lexan you are relying on a person you dont know to sterilize your works. All medical grade surgical instruments are manufactured from Stainless Steel, and thats all I will ever use.
Third Proper sterilization is a MUST. do not rely on any dry heat methods, autoclaving is truly the most sound form of sterilization, if you cannot afford an autoclave, a stove top pressure cooker is a acceptable substitute, at least 20 minutes at full temperature and pressure, the A.M.A. did research on the use of pressure cookers as a sterilization method thier tests concluded that a pressure cooker will kill all bacteria, fungi, and bloodbourne pathenogens.
but understand this, no health department will ever approve a pressure cooker, or toaster oven as proper sterilization methods.
Sure you can use a pressure cooker to sterilize you can also use a casette motor and a guitar string to tattoo but listen ...would you really want someone to tattoo on you (a PERMANENT invasive proceedure) with all the risks entailed...someone who does not have enough respect for you or the art to use the proper and adequate tools?....
Of course not...and by the way this is not a how to tattoo with cheap household items type forum....Gabe you need to watch this stuff my friend....posts like the above are DANGEROUS!!
This is not a how to forum period so posters ,,,READ THE TOP FUCKIN POST!!!!!!....TAz
By the way chickens are GREAt for practising on...Look at the JUne issue of Skin and Ink magazine...pg81....Madame Vyvyn La Zonga has HER apprentice tattooing WHAT? ...a chicken!!...
Salmonella is not an issue if your instruments are cleaned and sterilized properly, although I prefer my people to use disposables
Anyway if madame La zonga does it it can't be all wrong ...she has been a leader in this biz for centuries!( it seems like!!! ha ha )

By the way...in a town just south of me an amateur was trying to sterilize with a stove top pressure cooker...the cheap ones have no guage to tell pressure....well the safety plug malfunctioned and the thing BLEW UP!!! Took off three of the idiots fingers with it!!!
Sorry ...a little knowledge is a very dangerous thing!!...TAz
SHIT!!!...Now Vyvyns gonna have my balls for implying that shes old!
You ain't old darlin!......You are just experienced!!
Please don't kill me!
TAz
see what i mean.................???????
i see you folks are talking about "guns" up above. ive got a few for sale. theyre all long guns mostly shotguns and a few rifles. i know the shotguns a 20 gauge and i have a 30 30 rifle also. i also clean them with oil.
I never tattooed before with a gun! (must be painfull!)
I prefer a nice "TATTOO MACHINE" it makes nice straight lines instead of big bloody holes!
Baker sendz.............
whats a tattoo gun i've herd of them but never seen one, must be something new.
i'll bet it's like that make up gun homer simpson invented,
the one he shot marge with, and it was set on whore.
so do you just aim and shoot this tattoo gun ?
dose it just shoot outline, shading and color all at once ?
well i'm old skool i'll just stick with my machines !!!
For you guys who really want something to practice on rather than scaring people....Try this: http://www.inkitt.com/
Its a MUCH better alternative then letting friends, family or anyone run around with your practice pieces.

I ment to say scarring....but in this case...whats the difference?
I'm new to the site a posted this same question under starting a business. I showld have read further before posting anyway.
Just a question?
What is everyones take on the Fake Skin as far as texture and taking ink? I see some one suggested grapefruit, I'm assuming that was a roo, seems like it might cause contamination or cause sticking or gumming.

No grapefruit can be used as a primary sort of "get a feel for it" type thing
