hi! i'll start tattooing next summer in a studio, but until this date i want to learn as much as possible, but i started with reading lectures a few weeks ago. and i need some help via internet if its possible. i've problems with soldering the needles. when i heat the plump with the soldering bit and try to put it on the needle formation the led ..hm how shall i explain it with my small vocabulary ;o)... won't have anything to do with the needle formation and congeals in balls. any tips any information about soldering needles?! please help me greets from austria yoschi
well first off i hope you are not using a led base solder if you are stop immedately do not pass go . first off are you using a needle grouping jig 2nd do you have a needle making jig these 2 tools will make needle making a whole lot easier for you.i like to use a eye dropper bottle to store my flux in this gives me a controled amount of flux to apply to the needle group im making if you have further questions feel free to e mail me at [email removed]
Please refrain from talking about technical aspects to tattooing in this forum. The internet is no place to learn how to tattoo! Ask the artist you are apprenticing under.
please.
Learning how to make needles is not tattooing! Therefore LIGHTEN UP!
I'm with you on that one Gabe....... besides, if you are making needles and you can't figure out a solder problem, Maybe you should put it away. You might not be ready to take on that challenge.
Wait til you start at the studio you mentioned ....they will help ya! IT CALLED APPRENTICESHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!TAZ
First and formost I buy all my needles from respectable Company's from the East coast to the West coast, with that said you have to start with stainless steel solder with some percentage of silver in the solder. After having grouped and tightened the needles in the appropriate jigs, I use a stainless steel soldering flux, {liquuid} apply flux to the needle group hold your roll of solder to the needle group until it melts. Thiis procedure has to be an almost exact science especially when grouping or your group will spread apart. I hope this information is helpful to you. later tatsbybob
As Gabe so politely asked...please refrain from giving technical information on this forum....and to the moron who said needle making has nothing to do with tattooing well then what do YOU tattoo with?...Sharpened guitar strings?...Of course it is a vital part of tattooing and an art in itself. T
I agree, any competent apprenticeship includes making needles, soldering them to the needlebar, etc., and shouldn't be discussed here, as Gabe politely stated....Doc
3 words for you. ASK YOUR MENTOR
use lead free silver solder and make sure to use the correct flux for the solder used. Teaching someone to solder is not tech! MAGNUM
I was reading the comment at the top of the page and it said about not using a solder with a lead. . . . . Why ? i just started making needles and i use one of them ,Whats wrong about it ?
Sorry not A lead . With Lead i ment to say .??
Same reason drinking water pipes are not to be soldered with lead solder...that's as much as I'm going to say. If you don't get it, go eat some more lead paint chips and think about it some more till it comes to you...Jezzus...
ok for those saying don't give out tech info and saying get an apprenticship well i'm for the apprenticship cuz I am but look at it this way..through free information helping others do it right then thats less scratchers and ppl doing it wrong... how do you know if the person he is potentionally apprenticing under is ill informed???? come on ppl tattooing techniques have to be practiced and applyed so reading does not necesserily give away anything ... sry for any bad spelling
Once again, you can give a bum $5 and point him to the best biscuits and gravey in town. But chances are he just wanted that 5th of Jack to get him through the day. There is a reason why info is not freely handed out. You can never really tell what someones intentions are 100% of the time. It could be up front honesty or upfront bullshit. Those that really want it will bust their asses day in and day out to do the right thing, NOW MATTER HOW LONG AND HOW MANY OBSTICLES THEY MUST OVERCOME....just emphasizing a point.....J
so ... no one answered the question about the no lead solder politly ... well im gonna do it ! ... you see ... lead is somekind of toxic ...and thats why you have to not use lead solder when you solder things that could come in contact with blood or whatever way in your organism ! ...so thats also why we solder plumbing with lead-free solder !
