raised black tattoo

I got a tattoo this summer on my arm. It normally isn't raised. Today I noticed for about 2 hours it was very raised especially the dark black areas. Anyone know why?
culd be a combination of things. COuld be. 1. the artist drilled you a bit hard causing scare tissue on the surface. or if it isnt raised all the time. 2. the ink the artist used has metal alloys in it that expand during certian conditions. or possibly 3. you didnt keep the tattoo out of the sun while healing. this alone can cuase a tattoo to be raised
best bet is to take the tattoo back to the artist who did it. i had a black and grey tattoo that would get bumps in the sun. ink in skin = chemical experiment and evidently whatever ink was in my skin didnt like the sun that much. Years later I got the tattoo colored and no more bumps ever. Theory - new tattooing busted up the inks that were being irritated by sun and caused skin to re-heal.
Usually raised tattoos are a sign of scar-tissue build up from the artist going too deep with his needle causing the skin to react. I find this most common with single needle outlines. Usually if you are in conditions for your normal skin to swell (for instance: the shower, the sun, or any other exposure to heat) it might cause the scar tissue to rise as well. I wouldn't be concerned, and I don't think there's any reason for you to go back to the artist. It's likely just swelling from heat or friction- there's nothing to be done. To test this theory, the next time you see the skin raising, put an icecube or cold compress and if it goes down- then you have your answer!
Thanks It had never been raise before and went down with in 2 hours. It actually has had no sun exposure. If it happens again I'll try the ice and see if it heat related. Thanks again
i had a tattoo done in july and i noticed it's been raised for the past week or so. It healed well and i havent had any problems till now. It's also sensitive and tender to the touch, and looks abit puffy. Ive tried putting a cold cloth on it but it just get raised and sensitive again. Is there anything i can do to make it better? How much longer is this gonna last??
im experiencing the same thing right now. Ive had my tattoo for about 7 years. it healed properly, i used sun screen, all that stuff. and just now, while im sitting on the couch eating nutella i felt this bite on my tattoo. and for some reason only the black ink on the left side of my tattoo is raised. this has never happened to me before. whats the friggin deal!! did a bug or spider strategically bite all the black ink??
Hey - I've had the same "problem" for years, I have all B&G work some heavily shaded and some intricate cross-hatching/linework - Done by 3 different artists years apart and I'm sure with different black inks. (One of whom is one of the masters in the biz so it's not just skill level) I don't know why but mine also occasionally swell/raise a bit, nothing majorly serious but you can see them raised up and feel the lines if you run your hands across my tats. My best guess is that I just have a mild allergic reaction to foreign particles in my body - I don't have any color so I can't comment on that. I wouldn't worry too much - my arms haven't fallen off yet :)
As others have said it's likely just swelling from heat or friction. My tattoo raises in heat, a bit before bed, after the deed, and when I have my period. My artist made no mistakes... it's just my body. If you are concerned just try putting ice on it when it's raised. If it goes down it is fine. If not then give your artist a call.
I got a tattoo on the back of my shoulder 4 yrs. ago and the outline keeps swelling. I can trace the whole outline of the tatt with my fingers. when it swells it gets very itchy . I seems to happen all year round and I'm very pale so I don't sun tan. Tonite it is minus 5 outside and it is really bothering me should I be concerned?
