I got a tatto on my foot/ lowercalf area back in June. It is composed of 3 hibiscus flowers and a cross. One of the flowers was done in red and outlined in a maroon color. Well it has been almost 6 months and the maroon still hasn't healed. It is raised, dry, and itches like crazy. The guy that did my tattoo hadn't seen this happen before and told me that he had been toldto put lemon juice on it, so I did for about 2 weeks. I was putting it on at night and leaving it wrapped in saran wrap overnight. Well i haven't seen any change. Does anyone know of any other ways that i might be ab;e to help control it? Nobody will tattoo over it cuz it's still an open wound. Thanks.
Red Reaction?

Well, let's see, perhaps your tattooist used a bad batch of ink, or you could be allergic to the red ink itself. Sounds weird, but it happens. I do believe, since I've heard it so often, that the greatest probability of problems caused by a reaction to an ink is usually the reds. Another thing I wouldn't recommend is to wrap up your tattoo with cellephane since it could promote infection and retard your healing process, if indeed it is healing. I would ask the tattooist who tattooed you if anyone else has had any problems or the kind of ink he used. He may not know there is a problem and continue tattooing with the same ink. If your tattoo persists to itch and appear infected, I would probably seek the advice of my physician.
I had talked to the guy that did the work, and he said that he hasn't had any other problems, but he doesn't use a whole lot of red or maroon on people. He got rid of the colors though because he doesn't want to see anyone else have this happen to them. I went to the doctor right after it started swelling and he said that I had cellutitus or celluosis I can't remember which one, but he put me on keflex which didn't change anything. I have an appointment with a dermatologist later this month. Is there something different in the maroon ink thats not in the red? cuz it's only the maroon thats all swollen and dry and scabby. Thanks!
