Reinventing the Tattoo - 2nd Edition by Guy Aitchison

31 messages · last activity 5/3/2010

Reinventing the Tattoo - 2nd Edition by Guy Aitchison. I returned from the Detroit Tattoo Convention, which kicked ass by the way to find the long anticipated Reinventing the Tattoo - 2nd Edition waiting for me. It is a beautiful volume tucked in a large slip case and accompanied by a companion DVD. The massive book is presented in a text book style and is laid out so well you will have a hard time putting it down and is so full of information you won't know where to start reading. I have read all of Guy's previous books and let me tell you, this one tops them all by a mile and I have only started skimming the highlights of the first 50 pages of the over 350 pages that make up what will most likely become the Tattoo Bible. Kudos to Proton Press for helping with the publishing of the awesome five and a half pound hard cover which could easily break your foot if dropped so be careful. And yes, I did put it on a scale to weigh it. Thank you Guy for sharing your twenty years of experience with the tattoo world. I am giddy with thoughts of what our industry will evolve into once enough minds have absorbed this book. The Renaissance that we have enjoyed in this industry for more than ten years now is far from over. It has long been my opinion that Guy is the single most influential artist in the tattoo world and this overwhelming new book just reemphasizes that. Through his teaching and dedication to this living art form he has pushed the envelope of possibilities and I am more than happy to be one of the throngs of artists along for the ride. `puke` Guy the scratcher messiah.
ha.
Best tattoo technical book I own, perhaps that exist until these days. Covering from the basis through complex techniques. The DVD companion is great as well. Some stuff in the book are really basic but that's what it makes this book ideal for the apprentice taking his/her steps through the advanced artists wanting to learn more. well worth it.
Noz, I love you but sometimes I think you were tea-bagged by a camel. Don't take that offensively, I'm jealous, really. :P
i'm actually actively seeking a camel for friendship, or just a discreet encounter. everybody knows where these books end up, they're scratcher manifestos.
Gina> ROFLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL tea bagged by a camel!!! I can't !!! Lmaoooooooo
I already had the first book. When I got the second one, I felt a little ripped off! It was pretty much a re-sale of the first book rapped up in a nice little package. Sure it was a little more in depth, But the same book none the less. So, yet again I walk away from commercialism with an empty wallet and fealing violated!!
guy is an opportunist. it's an easy way to make a quick buck.
"`puke` Guy the scratcher messiah. "?? As far as I know Guy completed an apprenticeship.
easy money eh? I take it you never wrote a book before... ha.
Wow this thread is full of real ignorance. Some one the things that have been said here made me sick in the stomach. Whoever bought the book like I did. Can realize that the extensive amount of work that went over that book deserves way more of what the book cost. He also gives you a 100 buck rebate if you turn in the old book. How can someone call that "opportunism" Anyway. I'm out to the real tattooing world. Some people need a break from computers.
stephen king puts alot of work into his books, too. they cost $20. guy is doing it for the coin. that doesn't make him a bad person, but spare me the horseshit. i didn't call guy a scratcher to the illiterate assclown who misread my post, i merely suggested that he trains scratchers in large numbers. who do you think is lining his pockets?
Yeah but King's books don't educate you and they are mass produced. Guy's books are produced on a much smaller level and give you an educational outlook that surpasses what you MAY learn in a traditional; apprenticeship. Not saying it's a replacement...but in addition to, I think it puts artists ahead of the game.
Also... I think that if you are a total noob the book won't help you at all....
"Who do you think is lining his pockets?" I'm pretty sure Guy is lining his own pockets through his innovative efforts, amazing tattooing and hardwork put into a lifetime in the industry. To suggest his book sales to scratchers lines his pockets is absurd. I'm not going to say some people who probably shouldn't use the book are going to get their hands on it, but what your suggesting is just dumb.
mary, your meaningless scratcher opinion is noted.
Your approval means everything to me.

wedoitallcarlita, busting on the only poster on the thread with an obviously female name (mary) with your lame sexist commentary is, well...sad. If you realized what you were telling us about yourself, you would have kept that to yourself.
Fuck all you hating bitches, all of you scratched , every tattoo artist started scratching when they started , those who say they havent are purly lieing, so shut the fuck up and stop being scared that people will take your money cause they will be better and charge less for the same work ( end result) so fuck off and get lifes and realizz that everyone has at some point in there life so called scratched , but realy not cause there needle goes in just like a so called pro at a shop so keep hating hipercrets and fagea you wont change shit at all and we and all are the new world untill 2012 , hopfully god lets us survive
