Just got back from the dentist(ouch!)and something I saw made me wonder if this is comon. While the hygenist was rifiling through the drawer of sterilized tools of torture, she wore no gloves.I also noticed the same pratice on on a tv show about tattos. When I asked the hygenist about it she shruged her shoulders and gave me a look sugesting it was a good question. So now I ask you do you touch sterilized equipment(in pouches) with your bare hands?
I know at our shop we'll handle equipment tht has been sterilized gloveless as long as its in its little blue sterilization package. Whenever that bag comes open, its gloves on time Jack.
Could'nt that lead to cross contamination? You pick up one see it's not what your after, pick another pull it out of the drawer. Put your gloves on then open the package w/gloved hands after it was handled by bare ones.
Arghhh!! So confused...falling out of chair!...Head reeling!!! I suppose thats a valid point sir, i'll have to look into that. I guess its better than handling bare tools but nonetheless. Touche
I'm not tryin to call anyone out, just raising a question.
And you are so right!!...No equipment should be handeled with bare hands not even if it is in a sterilizer bag....You should have gloves on...do your set up proceedure...wash hands AGAIN..then rgloves when you sit down to do your tattoo....YES!!!!! This is all part of anti cross contam techniques and should br followed...As Krystof once said ...sometimes he changes gloves a multitude of times during one tattoo...if I even accidentally touch my clothing with my gloves they come off...hands are washed and new gloves put on!
I have to agree with Taz on this one, nothing should be touched gloveless. I use several sets of gloves during the whole process. one pair for sanitizing before the tattoo, another pair for setting up machines, then depending on the piece, many more pairs for the actual tattooing, another pair for washing the tattoo, another pair for bandaging the client, another pair is used when I break down the machines, and finally another pair for sanitizing after the tattoo.
