Why arent single coil tattoo machines used more often?
Single Coil Tattoo Machines

Same reason 8 tracks went out of style.
unimax sells the ministar for $60 ........its quite punchy.
there will never be anything that will replace the twin coil machine.
it has proven it self for over 70 years.
as far as a $60 tattoo machine you get what you pay for.
But thats My question...why? What makes the dual coil machine better than a single coil machine?

does the word magnetic mean anything to ya
The fact is single coil machines can be and are used mostly in cosmetic tattooing where the machine doesn't need much power.
this whole thing can be compared to automobile engines....4 cylinder motors are fine if ya don't wanna go real fast or if you aren't pulling a boat or trailer...then ya need the power of more cylinders say 6 or 8....same thing with a machine...more coils=more punch.
I even have ( or used to have...They were stolen) a 3coil and a 4 coil machine!!!..Heavy as hell but man did they buzz!.....hope this answered yer question man!....TAz

Dammit!! I HATE it when I double post..BAD TAz...BAD TAz!!!!
I need a spankin!...ERLICH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the single coil machine from unimax is $60 and.......... sometimes you get value for your money! ,and this is one of those cases ...the machine is designed by wes wood ,its iron, and has a very well designed chuck ... and good for any kind of lining ....up in the 7's and 9's.
It can really push a 9?...I want one!
Any machine can be set up to push a 9. Even 8 wrap coils are grossly overpowered for a tattoo machine. The reason a single coil is not as good is because:
TWO COILS, CONBINED WITH A FRAME BASE, OR A YOKE, CREATE A HORSESHOE MAGNET which is far more efficient than a bar magnet for the purpose. A bar magnet will never be as efficient or allow the machine to run at maximum potential.
If you want the same weight, with a better result, just unwrap your rear coil, and leave the core there. Again, it will never be as efficient because now all the power will be coming from one side of the magnet, but it WILL still work...and better than that unimax garbage, too. Why anyone would want to do that is beyond me, but if you want to screw around, knock yourself out.
Thanks for the info man!!!! I'm gonna try one tho just fer shits and grins...fug its only $60....T
