Hey Doctor John, funny to see you posting here- I drive by your shop like every day. I live in Clinton Township right on Kelly off of 15 mile. I recently got my first tattoo, but wasn't referred to you until after I got it. I ended up going to Excalibur (Im sure you know of it), but you can be sure i'll come to you for the next one after what i've heard.

Hey taz you got any bands lined up for that there taz fest??? cuz i happen to be in a blues band that just may be willing to head down there and the wife is thinkin she may want to compete in the tattoo contest and im fat and you said BAR B Q so thats a triple play for us lol
Oh hell yes man!!...You,your wife AND your band are more than welcome...We supply the sound system and its a fuggin monster...be glad to have you aboard!...Most of the bands are metal but blues would be more than welcome!...so where ya comin from?
clinton iowa so it will be a trip but the wife said shes been talkin with ya a bit so it will be worth it and i talked to the band just now and they said " BOOZE, BROADS, BANDS, BAR B QUE" heaven is located in MO
ok i know im opening myself up for an ass kicking here but lumping all of the home tattooist in to one evil catagory is kind of wrong. my wife is between shops right now and is workin out of the house this is a very temoprary situation!!!! we are lookin for a house that can be licensend according to the state health laws in IA. reagular jobs are crappy around here im stuck in a factory that barley pays the bills and its one of the best payin jobs around... so she could work in a gas station and for 7 bucks an hours and after taxes and child care well you see were im going or she can make 400-500 a week and be hear for our kids btw witch is the reason why were workin on setting up a home shop for her. cuz with the economy the way it is right now it sucks that both parents have to work and it the kids that pay the real price!!! but lets do a bit of a check list of what she uses when she does a tattoo, blister packed OE gas steralized single use needles-Check blister packed OE gas steralized single use lexan tubes-Check 4 very profesional tattoo machines-Check 3 station linear-Check Green soap in a protected spray bottle-Check Single use (PINK) razors-Check a chair that is cleaned with a bleach solution after each use-Check After care packs that include clean steral dressings and triple antibiotic and all nesasary information on how to take care of your new tattoo-check Black jack gloves(cuz shes spoiled)-Check hands washed after each and every glove change-Check infectiouse wast container with bio bags-Check Sharps container-check first aid knowlege-check Blood boren pathogens and prevention knowlege-check The point im tryin to make is that not all ppl stuck in there houses weather its temporary or permenet are evil dirty ppl out to spread infections and bad work I hope i havent pissed off anyone and my band can still play TAZFEST in october
I think I have said this before but since you are a newbie I will again...I have worked from my home albeit a very temporary thing...Dave Storm works out of a shop in his home...Paul Booth worked from home for a long time....Our pal Lord Mortis works from his home....This is my take....who am I to tell you that ya can't do what it takes to feed your family?...NOBODY!..As long as its temporary and you use all the precautions used in a knowledgeable studio and have or will have a license very shortly I have NO problem with you....Now what I DO have a MAJOR problem with are the kitchen magicians that use homemade or e-bay CRAP in unsterile environments or those that because they have little or no overhead do cut rate tattoos when I am forced to lease an expensive shop and all the bills that go with it so I cannot do cheap tattoos...THAT pisses me off...I am all for fair competition as long as its a level playing field for both sides. Yes the ideal situation is to apprentice in an established shop but I realize that that is not always possible...but if you are gonna do it...do it right and do it with honor. So I look forward to meeting you and the tattooin bitch!! And your band...Speaking of which...do you have a sample cd of your bands music?....Ok see ya!...TAz
ohh god no there is over $5,000 dollars worth of tattooin and piercing equipment in the house right now the only thing were missing is "the shop" wich is hopefully less then a month away!!! IA has really descent laws on getting a legal home shop open so all the licenses and etc are no problem just finding the right house with a cool land lord and the right lay out is whats going on now. she is a dedicated artist that wants to build a steady clinetell and hopefully employe an artist or two she is very business minded and did very well with her first shop. so yes she is new to the trade in some eyes but has built up a vast amount of not only tattooing and piercing expeirence but also alot of what it takes to make a good run in this buisness. we are going to be laying down a bunch of tracks over the next week or two so i will get you a copy of that. we will be doing covers by guys like SRV and BB King as well as our own stuff so if ya like the blues you should dig us!! Glad to find a place were a person can speak frealy btw im tired of when i say SHIT all i see is s@#t
By the way...I think yer wife is a hoot and I can't wait to meet you guys!!!...T
Crash test....IMO (and it don;t count for much) if your set up meets the standard policy on being sterile then the location really chould not matter. I have gone to shops that were converted older houses turned into shops. I think this is more about people boling water and thinking they are sterile, etc. Now my kitchen as of last night is a MESS and I would NOT recommend anyone tattoo here! TAZ don;t start yelling at me I swear it was the little kitten who made this mess! I'm cleaning it up RIGHT now!
its about following the law more then anything from my understanding if you get caught the state takes your shit and thats 5.000 bucks we dont have right now(she is one spoiled little bitch ill tell ya) ! its so very temporary and she hates doin it but ya know. we are lookin for a house that meets the states floor plan for this type of thing, a house that has an outside door that leads in to the basement is the perfect set up and is what were looking for, then build the basement up to meet the rest of the guild lines. and then the biggest bounus of all she can ADVERTISE. one more question??? she is at a point were she can do most any average or above average tattoo's and she knows she needs to appretice to get to the next level of the craft but its out of the question due to a fallin out with the guy she was working under. when she gets her shop open would it be to backwards to try to hire another artist that could teach her and say let them keep 100% of the cash they make or somthing like that?? i dont know im just a very supportive hubby that wants her to do the best she can at somthing she really really loves doing cuz she has done the same for me!!
Well she IS already tattooing and she DOES have a long way to go but opening a shop and another artist could work if ya do it right...T
Taz, Thanks for the invitation, I am definetly going to really try to make it, it really sounds like it will be a blast. Fact is, I'm a single dad, run my own studio 6 days a week-by myself, so I don't get much time for 'outside activities', been like that for almost 6 years now. Most of the time, I don't mind much, sure did a LOT of crazy shit when I was younger and sure got some bitchen memories to look back on, for sure. But, damn it, this thing of your's sounds like it's gonna be something worth being at, a part of, so, I'm going to see if I can't make the necessary changes to attend (even moreso since it seems there's to be a Blues band, I love the blues) Thanks for the invite, I'm definitely going to try to be there...Do
Dave D, Didn't mean to slight ya by not answering sooner but, of course, I've heard of Excalibur, hopefully you got a good piece of work. Actually, I have people come in rather frequently who tell me they didn't know I was here (although I've been at this location over 11 years now, as you know the Studio doesn't stick out when you're driving by) I don't really advertise, most of my work comes from word of mouth, referal and repeat business. But feel free to come on in and check out my work when ya get to thinking of your next. As I've told people for years, check out the work of the various artist around you, see their work (photos, not 'flash') then decide whose work you want to wear the rest of your life. Thanks for the post...D
