Ive been tattooing as a hobby for about 2 years. About 2 nights ago my main machine started running funny. I didnt know if it was my machine or something else, so i hooked my clip cord to another one of my machines and it was acting funny also. Im wondering if its my power supply, my foot pedal or my clip cord. Anyone have this problem before? and know what it might be? Also, while lineing I tend to run my power supply at about 7. Whenever its all hooked up, when I step on the foot pedal it goes down to 6. and when I let go it goes back up to 7.
Something with my setup isnt working

Hmmmm...Hobby....
No idea what could it be? Hmmmmmm...Nope. Not a clue. Sorry dude.
Yes, Hobby.. I tattooed for a lil over a year as a job, then started doing as a hobby cause I started going to college for graphic design. I plan on going back to work full time in my friends shop after I graduate.
Process of elimination man. Take your machines, and clip cord and foot cord to a local tattoo shop. Ask them if you can hook your machines up. Tell them what the problems are. They should be willing, but maybe not.
if you take your meat grinders to a reputable shop, they will most likely chase you down the street and beat your ass. if you dont know whats going on, maybe, just maybe you should put the machines down until you get the proper apprenticeship. just my 2 cents
Wow stupid...you should probably read his entire post. A lot of people here do not know how to work on their machines. For that matter, I am sure there is NO ONE on this forum that knows how to rebuild a power supply.
He was asking if anyone could point him in the direction of the problem. So before you insult him, you should at least read his post. Only thing worse that a "hater", is an illiterate one!
check ALL OF YOUR WIRES sounds like theres a small short somewhere.

hahahaha im the stupid one? your screen name is #2 scratcher, yah thats awesome, btw the only info he gave was that his machine was running funny,so he plugged in the other meat grinder he has, and low and behold it was running funny too!!! are you fucking retarded? if he was in a shop he could have asked somebody he worked with, but no, he went on a forum, that clearly says no fucking technical talk, sounds to me like your the fucking idiot. if you know so much about everything then you tell him how to fix the problem, then he can give you some hep c for helping him out.
I did point him in the right direction. It looks like I struck your "ego" nerve. First off, I do know the rules of the forum. I didn't give him that much information. However, if I had more knowledge about the workings of a power supply, I would gladly share it with him.
Funny you took a shot at my handle. Look in the mirror mate, "travelingtom", are you joking! Does your handle refer to you lacking talent to get a residency in a local shop, or do you travel from town to town like the old carnies?
Before you go trying to start shit with me about how my name says it all. Well, yes, I am a "scratcher". I am also an apprentice. Unless some other people, I do not have the luxury of living at home with my parents. I actually have to feed myself. That is why I tattoo from my home.
I have been tattooing for 3 months. Please...before you say how horrible my work is (without even seeing it). Post some of your early work. Like, with in the first YEAR of you being apprenticed. I am sure it will be no better, or even WORSE than mine.
my screen name is traveling tom because i work conventions when im not at my shop you fucktard, because i travel, fucking idiot. does your mentor know that your tattooing out of your house while your being an apprentice? thats pretty fucked up. and if you are really apprenticing, which i think your full of shit, but it doesnt matter, doesnt it piss you off to have a bunch of lazy assholes trying to get all the info about tattooing through the internet rather than at least trying to get an apprenticeship? im not saying that just because somebody doesnt get or have an apprenticeship, that they cant be successful, im saying that i hate fucking idiots that come on forums like this and many others, instead of doing the actual work.if your fucking stupid, than its not going to matter what someone tells you on a forum, because you still dont know what the fuck your doing, and im sick of people like you that stick up for those lazy assholes.you know what that dude is doing is most likely wrong, but who cares, lets just run this whole industry into the ground because of some lazy fucking assholes!!!!!!!!
you are in college for graphic design for no reason really then? your saying your going for that then going back to tattooing professionally? yea sure...... if your setup isnt working, ask your mentor, if you dont have one then you dont need to know
Does it bother me that people come on forums asking questions about tattooing. Not really. I believe people would be better taught in person (apprenticeship). But some people do not have the money to do it. Or are unable to travel to a different city to get a decent one. Yes, my "master" knows I am tattooing out of my house. He knows me, he knows my situation. Does it bother him...yes. But he knows it isn't a permanent thing. I have a room that is totally used for tattooing. Tile floors, white counter top, tat soul chair...etc. I have easily 3000$ in this studio, that is not including my machine, inks, power supply, etc.
I understand why you are so mad that people are learning on their own. I know what hard work was put in taking this industry out of the dark ages. But you have to understand...some people do not have the means to get the proper education. So I will help those people with the knowledge I have learned along the way. I would much rather help someone figure out a mechanical issue, than have them butcher. Take the original poster. He is having issues with his voltage. I would rather tell him to get a new power supply, rather than turn up the voltage and have him chew the piss out of someone.
I figured what your handle meant. I just made a generalization of what it could mean. No hard feelings. But try not to jump to conclusions about people until you know them.
A lot of artists got their start by "scratching". Lets not forget that.
i agree with 95% of what you said. you just have to understand that most "scratchers" quit when the goin gets tough. nothing worth doing is easy........NEVER. and they always think how easy everything is until they have a problem, so they jump on the internet where they get their internet-apprenticeship, and that doesnt sit well with me.
I agree with you. This industry takes a lot of hard work and sleepless nights. The only thing that bugged me was the "part time" thing he said. This trade is not a part time thing. Unless you are happy with be mediocre.
