Ok just got a call from a production company that is selling television spots of 30 seconds appearing on A&E etc during Miami ink and Inked....Was kinda curious as to everyones opinion artist an non artists...Do you think this is a viable advertising venue or do you think its CHEESY?
I am really interested in your opinion.....these ads will be for the original Painted Angel and the new shop soon to be open in Fort Collins Co with Erlich
BTW the spots are actually less costly than the ones we run on our local cable affiliate....
Thanks for your input all...TAz

Gabe the heading on this post should be..."spots on miami ink" can ya change it for me?...sorry!...TAz
Taz,
That show is watched by MANY people!! Some have tat's, some don't and some are thinking about gettin ink done.
Some people on here may like/dislike the show (and I am sure they will voice their opinions!)
From a business point of view.... If the time slots are cheaper, and there is that many more people watching it.. I say GO FOR IT!
Just make sure they are not cheesy little commercials, (not sayin that the ones you are running on cable are, as I have never seen them) Just sayin spend the $$$ and make it worth while!!
Baker sendz....
"Sots on Miami ink"
roflmao! That was great!
But seriously, If you don't mind people showing up and expecting something like "miami ink experience" then go for it! I haven't seen the show lately, but if it is about the same as it was then I can see you getting a lot more people coming in for 'memorial' tattoos and Kat Von D quality portrait work...If you got the artists to meet that standard then I say go for it otherwise you may be accused of bait and switch if you can't meet or exceed the quality... not doubting here, just saying...I could see it happening...
I am not in the slightest worried about the quality of ink coming from MY studios...as I said just wanted opinions on the "cheesy factor" of having my studios associated with those on such a commercial venue and wanted opinions on that and that alone...Thanks
well i see where yer comin from caribou fair and legititmite reason there.i say that if people percive the said add as miami ink then that is what they will see it as.im sure that this spot would have the class and truth! nothing more no false statements we are going to have a good battle on our hands and i say bring it on folks let us rock your world of wonder and pick your most inner desires, dreams and fantasy and compose those to your skin so you can truly become a painted angel.along with our customer service and all we will defintiely turn heads in this state.(don)
shit also a&e is national and world comcast is only a few states around not as national as a&e i think it would be a good idea we got a&e here so what the heck.its cheaper!
Taz,
I wasn't implying anything about the quality of the ink in your shop...just saying that those people who's first and only exposure to the tattoo experience is the studio known as 'Miami ink' may be expecting 'miami ink when they walk in your door due to where they caught the ads... LordErlich got what I was sayin'. if you don't mind that mindset in the clientel, then the advertising is probably viable... As for the "cheesy factor'...I think that depends mainly on the content and production values of your ads, not when or where they air... Sorry about misunderstanding the narrow-ness of your question!
Guess the honeymoons over huh?
No NO ya got it wrong gawddammit!!
I know what you were sayin...
My point and question is not the quality of either our tattoos Or our ads...its the running of our ads in direct proximity of THEIR shows...there are a LOT of people who think less of our entire industry because of these shows (especially INKED) and just wanted an opinion on whether this proximity could affect the inherent value of OUR ads...
Now I don't think ANyone (even you Caribou! LOL!!!) can misunderstand THAT
DAMMITTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TAz
Taz,
Like I said before....
Go for it.. I don't think it is a bad idea at all..
But hey, just my opinion!
Baker sendz.....
Taz,
OK, got it...finally...I think...
Prove me wrong, but the ones who don't like the show are generally industry insiders anyway. If you were a tattoo supply house I could see a big downside/backlash from the industry (a la Huck Spaulding) but if you are worried about pissing off tattoo enthusiasts and losing customers as a result of your ad campain... I don't see that happening. Professional jelousy is another thing. There is always a sub population in any given group that is resentful of others success...you may attract criticism from that segment if your ads are successful...
Think Chris Garver is having any trouble sleeping at night due to his involvement in the show? Except for the lumpy wads of cash stuffed into his mattress I mean?
I doubt the ads run nationally, I bet they are localized by region or state. I think that, like any advertising, they will work if you are in it for the long run and the ads are excellent. I am definitely prejudiced by the effectiveness of the websites we build (its hard to beat 40-60,000 unique tattoo researchers looking at your portfolios) but running ads during a tattoo TV show like Maimi Ink is going to bring in some clients.
That is, Im sure we all get a little miffed by the TV viewers going "I need to fly to Maimi to get inked by the best", so I cant imagine giving the TV audience a local alternative to flying south is a bad idea. I think the key really is putting the $$$ into the production so the spots really stand out (and can quell any cheese factor). Let us know how it goes... And make a quicktime of the ad so we can put it on the website!
Actually I have heard he does have some reservations that may keep him from the next season..
And NOW I got what I wanted from ya Bou!!!...Thanks!!...TAz
You make sense Gabe (imagine that) I think our website with tattoonow will probably be the best and most efficient advertising dollar we spend this year .....but we want to spread out too...btw the ads are Not nationally run ... in our case it will run in 6 states and dollar for dollar I think will give much more exposure than our normal cable ads...we shall see I guess!!
Thanks for your input tho!...TAz
00:15 second spots? 00:30?
Have you already shot the footage? I say go for it! If you're intested I can see if any of our editors can cut something up for you to air.
Sounds like a great plan. I think you would get biz.
I'll email you our website if you are interested?
mamacat
p.s.
use a local band (punk?) for cross promotional and no worries about being sued for use....etc. That would be perfect
ok get this we do not have comcast cable in our area we going through another cable carrier just as good. therefore we would not see any comercials done by comcast. thus shuting out a broad spectrum of t.v contact. and yet 6 blocks down the road they do service comcast. go figure so i vote for a&e adversting. save the money say i. now where's my booty. LOL
Hey Taz and Painted Angel Guys,
When you are considering wether to do tv or not, the cheese factor is a really good thing to think about. Don't want your spot to look like you are running on Jerry Springer, but the biggest thing to think about overall with TV and Radio is that it can be extremely expensive overall, and somewhat ineffective if there's no recall on the part of the audience. The biggest thing with any type of advertising is repetition, repetition, repetition, and being memorable. I had one dumbassed client who had me do an ad for him, and he ran it one time, and then called me up to see why he got no responses. You have to just analyze it from the standpoint of your overall budget for advertising. If it's a good deal, and makes sense, go for it. If it's your whole budget, it gets really risky. Need to balance it out with some good print too.
Taz,
My friend Mike Young has advertised his Florida shop during the Miami Ink show in his local cable area and has said that business has picked up quite a lot since. It is not national advertising, only in the local cable coverage area which is your target audience anyway. Even if some people expect some sort of Miami experience, you will still have them through your doors and can then show off what you and your crew are made of.
Best of luck,
Larry
Listen!!, i live and work in south beach, i am in the biz, and not show biz, the tat2 biz...
i'll give you the poopscoop on miami ink "305INK" MIAMI STINK or OMI INK, lol
anyway, the shop has like 5 or 6 full time tattooers jim, dan, morgan, bob, bill, and harry.. chris Garver and kat only here when they are filming, darren is here and then slipts and then leaves and splits,(rockstars) so whatever,,,omi works when he wants to and i heard from some friends he is still tattooing out of his house, he has such an overflow of work he books for his house i guess? oh he also just bought a house
at this moment they are filming during the week, and only open on weekends for tattooing general public, they film casted people getting tattooed and give them hotel and gifts like gutairs, i tattooed the girl that got the red fender tattoo by garver? i didnt see the episode but was told by her fender gave her a gutair for the tattoo ...she went back a few months later to get a simpla outline of a dime sized star... she also said they gots a $200 min... she went to a shop down the road.. lol
its crazy out there in front of that tattoo shop, 50 people lining up at the door... 2hours before they open..haha
south beach has alot of good tattooers and ALOT of tattoo studios/shops..
aswell as alot of wack scratch shops and flea market crap looking shops.
if you get a tattoo at miami ink its gonna be good but, you can take a lil walk down the road and get one done just as well and a lil cheaper..
alot of ( I MEAN A WHOLE FUCKING LOT)people actually tell me the took a vacation just to get a tattoo at miami ink.. and they where told there tattoo was going to cost $2,000 which was also done down the road for $450-500.. $2000 is thier magic number i sappose..
oliver peck has been in town filming with them, he's cool.
i'm not sure how i feel about 305ink
i know its making tattooing more popular as a whole..
i was in detroit and everyone was talkin bout miamistink this and that.. blah blah blah....
and a more conservitive crowd coming to get tattooed, becuase of 305ink alot of conservitive money is here for the whole industry to absorbe... i dont know.....
but shit.... its fucking crazy over there, the tattooer make atleast $1000 a day, with out trying.. im makin that a week &workin all day,, what the fuck?
these guys are cool and i give them props on thier success as rockstar tattooers, but shit man,$800,000 houses and shit?
how long will this last? haha
nice read, but once on the same board would have been enough...jmo

TAz
Ya Taz, Good deal man. Just offering helpful info just in case. I figure you know what you are doing. Good luck man! Should go good! Just repeat, repeat, repeat!
Thanks Al I always appreciate your info my friend....
I was once told that people have to pass a huge billboard at least 50 times before it registers in their minds!!,,and it makes sense!
Totally true. Plus it's been estimated that you have 10 seconds to get the message... not unlike a pass from a really gorgeous drunk girl I guess!
