hello peoples, i have a friend who has herpes and i was wondering if theres a chance i could contract it by tattooing him even though i sterilize everything, wear gloves.should i just say forget it and aire on the side of caution even though alot of reports say the chances are slim as long as precaution is taken.
std's and tattooing

Should you not tattoo someone with aids if using those precautions? What about Hepatitus? i don't know anything about the technical or cleanliness side of tattooing, but i DO know that those are diseases that run through the blood stream and artists don't contract those when they take the proper steps. Isn't Herpies contained to an area? so, if you aren't tattooing that area, is there a problem??
Should you tattoo him or not depends more on whether or not you are a scratcher or a professional tattoo artist. That you know someone has a BBP or not should not change your routine because anyone could have anything whether you are aware of it or not. State where you work, who apprenticed you and what your training has been in BBP & CC. You'll get more opinions on whether tattooing your friend is a good idea regardless of his condition
actually i am a scratcher.i've never done a tattoo before and due to the lack of tattoists in my area i'm all alone and don't have an apprenticeship option.i just bought a kit and i've been researching on the net to get my info.i'm an animator who has always had a desire to tattoo.i have a huck spaulding book and know some scratchers who have been doing it awhile.i'd rather get my info from pro's but it seems to be a closed circle.i don't need a lecture either,i know how the pro's feel about scratchers even though i'm willing to bet most of them started as scratchers.i'm just looking for help and by keeping peple in the dark with info your just helping create what you hate, scratchers.thanks
The industry is not a "closed circle"...it's just a circle with a small opening. As others much wiser than me have pointed out...if there is no cosmetic surgeon or medical center in your town is the only logical solution to order some textbooks & a scalpel and go at it because you've always wanted to be a plastic surgeon?
As for keeping you in the dark, you've been shown the light. If you choose to keep your eyes shut who's to blame for the dark?
Thunder...No mt friend WE as professionals do not create scratchers...YOU as an uniformed layman create them!
Huck spaulding my ass! That book is what...30-40 tears old?...it just does not apply anymore...tattooing has moved light years ahead of the huck spauldings of yesteryear.
As has been said time and again this is not a how to forum...spend some time reading the back posts and you can see what is so obvious to others. We will NOT give technical info on tattoing...this is an invasive proceedure and should only be done by trained professionals...you can get rid of a bad tattoo...you can't get rid of AIDS or HEP....
By the way... go to www.badtattoos.com and you can see where you are headed....you seem so proud to be a scratcher...and thats ok...ignorant people abound......just remember...
WE DO COVER UPS!!!!...TAz
You already know how the pros feel about scratchers, you've decided to learn how to tattoo on the net and you don't need a lecture, but you're asking our advice?
Throw your stuff in the trash and go back to animation. You won't spread diseases that way. Sorry if I sound harsh, but if you're not willing to learn the proper way, thats the best advice I can offer you. You may thank me later.
PS- your friend that has herpes, may have other STD's as well, if you're considering tattooing this person, you better know what you're doing, or else you'll be the one spreading the disease thru cross contamination. You REALLY need to re-think this whole thing.

OMG.
That' is almost scarier than herpes (but, not quite)
I shudder to think it happens, but it does.

Just wear a condom, and you'll be fine.
