suggestions for a quality printer?

i'm looking to buy a new printer for my pc, that excedes the quality of prints produced by our current hp2175 all in one copier, scanner, printer...it just seems to take forever to print, and i am constantly replacing the short lived ink cartridges...i am willing to spend up to $500.00 (although i would prefer $200-300), if the printer is gonna be the shit, but i don't wanna be let down again when printing photos for my portfolio from my digicam...i kinda need it to be an all in one, at least copy/scan/print, but just a superior quality printer would suffice. any suggestions based on your experiences would be greatly appreciated...inkjet, digital, laser...whatever, share with us the lowdown...thanks so much...
