I sure as hell hope not
I have seen the future!
And it's as sick-making as I'd always thought it would be.
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHHA!!!
oh shit.... you weren't joking were you?
no i wasnt joking.. i had a tattoo artist tell me once that he had an agent that booked him on some rock tour or another .
Gabe is the only Agent Pushing Us Up.....LMAO
yea i suppose this site is an agent of sorts
If Tattooing is the new Rock 'n' Roll, then it's the logical next step!
If, as stated, this site is an 'agent' of sorts, then I'd guess the people putting on most of these 'Conventions' are agents of sort as well not to mention the producers of Miami Ink, if you follow my thinking? ...Doc
I think one has to make a distinction between 'agents' and 'facilitators'.
Why exactly would it be a bad thing to have agents? There are talent agents for actors and sports figures and other ARTISTS. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to focus on our craft instead of booking guest spots and working out logistics? I thought maybe i could just be an artist and leave the promotions to someone who DOES PROMOTIONS. yeah thats ridiculous, huh
oh and i'm actually punker than YOU
Freeing up tattooists time so they can focus on their craft? I support that 100%. The problem is the introduction of a 3rd party between customer and client whose primary motivation is financial. We've seen what has happened to Sport as a result of that.
My opinion? Good in principle, but if you dine with the Devil, use a long spoon.
Duh. That should be "between tattooist and client"
Well YoJim seems to be the voice of reason in this thread.
I never really understood why an Artist had to seek out any spotlight, There is more work than can be done now. Some people need an Ego boost to feel alive or appreciated, But no artist needs an agent, Unless your work cant get you there, Then maybe a bunch of Hype will.
Think about it rock star attitudes only damage this Industries credit, Second A rock star can pull together 10,000 people in about any city they visit. I hardly believe an artist can’t take the time out to schedule a convention or appointment.
Tattoo artist the new rock star = a ridiculous statement
serious look at what talent agents have done with movies and music. turned them into beauty contests. With agents it'll all be what they can sell as opposed to finding and promoting real talent.
Bang on, Dutchy! That's what I've wanted to say, but couldn't harness sufficient bluntness.
Im still thinking more along the lines of getting hooked up to do extra type projects , beyond local clients or conventions, like touring with a Rock or Rap tour or with the WWE ...etc. ....actualy thats what got me thinking about it as recently i tattooed the wrestler Batista.
I thought it would be cool to have someone to work out the contracts, someone who knows about it .
I have no intrest in being a " T.O." type tattoo artist, managed out of control .
You certantly dont need an agent to promote you, as evidenced by Brandon Bond ...king of self promotion.
But then i didnt start this thread to open a discusion about ethics i just wanted to know if anyone knew of such an agent.....i guess not.
Thanks all ,karma
Kat Von D has hired on help to manage her business, many artists who are overwhelmed will hire someone to handle all the communications they need to have in the day, kinda acting like an agent. I believe Paul Booth and company have a management company working with all their artists too. You might look em up...
I am of the philosophy that there should be little in between the artist and the client. Permanent artwork should be done without distractions (or as few as possible). Of course to each his own, but for me I like as little "pizzaz" as possible. A bit of smart marketing to bring in new clients and a simple pretty closed sales cycle... It seems like everything else is distracting, and with something like permanent art I dont like anything too distracting...
I actually want to apologize for my comment. I really thought it was an 'off the cuff' remark - honestly good luck and best wishes if you pursue those avenues!
