ok guys, I am thinking about designing a tattoo for when I turn 18 tell me if you think it is a good thought, and tell me where I can find reference to some of the stuff, I want to a phoenix wraping from my lower back up to my ribs, I want it rising from ashes and I want it to be a blue phoenix for originality, any thoughts, also I have another question, kinda stupid but would you all want me to leave this site and or stop posting, seeing how I'm only a kid?????

how long until your 18? going by your previous posts you obviously have interest in the industry outside of collecting so here's an idea... start checking out shops in your area, see who's style you prefer and then start discussing your ideas with them. That is to say if your 18th bday is within a year or 2, not 5 years away. They can help you better develop the concept.
As for the rest of your post. Don't be ridiculous. Going by how much I've seen you post on here, I know you've read the other threads. I do not know if that was sarcasm or just silliness, but regardless I'll address it. I do not believe that anyone would wish you to stop posting just because you're not 18 yet. You've received positive and intelligent feedback in the past, which wouldn't have happened if you weren't welcome.
This is a public forum where collectors are and have been welcome in the past so that they can learn and gather opinions from other collectors and artists. Despite recent events this is not something I see changing in the near future.
bee,
great post! you are amazingly articulate for a brand new mama, thanks and WOW
ugh sorry to not respond to the first post
i am not a brand new mama but i am certainly a tired one . . .
what style of work are you thinking of?
-first and foremost i would search google images
-start collecting different images that you like mix and match different parts/colors you like
-maybe find some beautiful feathers and keep a collection for artist refernce
when dee dee seruga was here at off the map she did a great pheonix and when she was drawing it up she was sitting at the kitchen table with all sorts of pics, color and black line, and peacock feathers surrounding her
the tattoo that she ended up doing was total dee dee bold crazy color style
also don't forget that as much as you want to draw it up yourself the artist you choose to do the tattoo may need to change it to make it fit your body, skin color etc
and yes stick around! If you want the best tattoo when you are 18, you will get it by learning as much as you can, actually that works for pretty much life in general
learn more=better
don't get tattooed till you are at least 23.
Thats not bad advice peckerwood.
I think with the research that 51 is doing he could get a great tattoo at 18, but still, most tattoos done before early twenties are regretted for quality (though 51 will not make this mistake RIGHT?) and subject(as your world view changes so does your taste in permeant images). That said, if you really spend the time investing your energies in researching amazing tattoo artists and saving your money, then a quality phoenix tattoo will be pretty awesome... Most important part is the artist doing the job, reference and whatnot comes later.
Also, that is a silly question, people under the age of 18 are some of the best people to educate about the tattooing process(so you dont make stupid mistakes like we did). You've also been here a while, so, well, dont leave till you want to!
Hey 51, i got my first tat when I was 16>>> bad, I got it in brazil and i didn't even know that there it were laws controlling the biz back then. Anyway. I am 31 and I regret some, thinking about laser, Deano Cook suggested I clear up some room before he tattoos me. But I wish I could have waited a bit to grow and really think about what I am "about"
Brother no rush, digest it, when you are young you think more with your temporary Mind than with your true one.
Just an advice. I believe that even 18 is a young age to take that kind of permanent decision
Take my advise or leave it.
it would be cute if we could have a tattoo now contest of a phoenix design, eh? lol. i'm up for it. battle of the trolls! winner takes all! nah, seriously it would be cool if people who haven't posted work and talk shit do one. gimme a a couple days.
nah seriously. i love drawing stuff for people. i'm lazy and just am more motivated doing stuff for others.
ryan if you have any input, like styles you like or google images, post em on this thread here, okay?
smooches
Sounds like a great idea, and a challenge any serious troll would tackle head on. Big ass pheonix draw off... 1 week deadline from today? Subject fits perfect too... (well, almost perfect)
can admittedly non-tattoo artists that draw for pleasure and are not trolls participate as well? just for the heck of it
I think non-trolls are way more than welcome to join the fray! Lets see what ya gots... Geeky non-artist types with no time can indeed refrain luckily.
i haven't drawn in years, this will be fun, i like a challenge. yeah it would be awesome to see other people's renditions... 1 week! i better get off this computer. ;)
I like the phoenix idea, always have.. but... I wouldn't do it in blue.. the concept is the phoenix is burning up in flames.. blue flames aren't hot enough to burn things (try it in a plumbers torch).. go with the fiery colors you'll be happier.. (in my opinion)..
If you ever want inspiration for ideas go to www.elfwood.com.. I just went and searched on phoenix.. some cool stuff!

Actually blue flames are hotter than orange. You could surround the phoenix with real looking flames so that the blue phoenix in the middle is the hottest part of the fire. Just an idea.
Dana
that is a pretty cool idea!
They are hotter but it depends what you are burning. Ever see blue in a regular camp fire? Maybe I'm visualizing it wrong.. the phoenix itself would be blue, or surrounding it would be blue? I was thinking he wanted the bird part to be blue... to me that's ugly.. just my opinion though..

Yeah, I was thinking he wanted the bird blue, and I was thinking it would look neat to have orange flames around it. Blue, usually denotes coolness (as in temperature), but if it's surrounded by flames people would probably get the idea. Plus, you don't see many blue phoenix, it would be a little different.
In every fire the blue flame is the hottest. If you don't have a blue flame it's not that hot (granted it will still burn ya). If you look at a camp fire, at the base where the coals are, if you have it hot enough, you see blue flame. Camp fires aren't usually hot enough to have blue flames though. Think bunson burner.
Dana
that's exactly what i was thinking. i was sketching some stuff for it, and...it just is going to take some fuckin around with the flames and stuff to get it to look "hot". actually i don't think a phoenix should be blue. it's just too cool of a color for something rising out of a pyre of fire, in my opinion. but i'm trying to pretend i HAVE to draw this for someone as a job. it's the only way i can be motivated when i do art. so...hopefully it comes out okay, but after looking at phoenix images on the net, i just want to see if i mess around what it would look like anyhow. oh well....:)
