So my question is in regard to machine design minute details that make a 20 dollar ebay gun for a 150 for soba frame alone
So I guess my Question will be in a few parts
ok aside from adj placement of the front binding post, why cant I just get a frame from a cheap machine off ebay and get a new set of coils from workhorseirons and have a decent machine
what exactly makes a soba frame so nice, do different frames perform differently when there of the nonadjustable type
what is the performance difference in a 8 wrap and a 10 wrap set of coils
what is the voltage performance difference of both
I have seen some about these 1.5 coil machines as well is there a place I can get of half coil or do I have to wrap my own.
Is there any information on doing all this by hand or with a cad, and information on wraping your own coils.
Thanks in advance, all help is apreciated
P.S. Thinking of Gettin some more black and was wondering if anyone has opinions on kura sumi, kabuki, and skin candy roan, and why all you artist so mad about your machine being called a gun, all I ever see is "guns shoot bullets" as a snide remark but they also spit out glue and heat and in my opinion if need be some sick ass ink.

It is a Machine.......Guns kill people .....Machines are works of art that are fine tuned instrustments
The frame material and geometry play a huge role in how a machine will operate. Having stellar coils on a cheapie chinese frame will not equal a good machine.
Some would argue that a non-adjustable frame, meant for one purpose (liner or shader) will stay tuned better...less headaches.
Voltage depends on the job being done and your individual technique.
its simple just buy a good quallity machine ie, a time machine and then buy its cheap chinese ripoff off ebay and judge for yourself the difference and quallity the chinese ripoff machines are pure crap
Here is the thing. Cheap machines are cheap for a reason. Cheap materials will give you in most cases a cheap performance. why? because for a machine to perform right it needs to be built with prime materials and smart criteria. Metals prices have gone up. Copper, 1010, 1018 steel, brass, aircraft aluminum and other prime materials used to build machines are not the cheapest metals out there these days.
A coils set that is built with a cheap copper wire, capacitor, insulation and other factors will reflect in the performance of the machine, let alone say that most people that build cheap crap machines have no clue about tattooing or what a machine needs to do to pass the test of time and performance during the tattoo procedure.
There are affordable machines out there that will give you great results without falling into the "cheap crap" category.
A professional tattoo artist will invest a decent amount of money in his/ her tools. The reason why is simple. Invest once and be done with it. A lot of that ebay cheap crap is just that, a machine design that has been ripped off from a reputable builder or a machine that just looks cool to hook up the non savvy and performs poorly.
Think like a pro painter, graphic designer, plumber etc. They want good tools that are not going to leave them behind and that will perform the work on the dot.
The truth is that most average tattoo machines can be paid of with just one fairly small tattoo if your are a legit artist.
With that said, do your research and invest wisely... and most important invest just once in that tool. There are a broad line of products to chose from, from coil, swash, rotary, pneumatics. Just look for what your job requires, put the pocket in a second pane, think of results.
