My machine gets too hot and I am at a lose as to why? After 10 or 15 minutes it is uncomfortable to use, or is this normal. I guess one question is are the coils supposed to be wired in series or parallel, that is the only think I can think of as to why it get so hot. Thanks for any help. Emil
Tattoo machine get too hot

Couple of different possibilities, rear spring could be bent too much, washers below the coils- are they fiber or other?
Well after years of working with a hot running machine I find out that the coils are wired incorrectly, they need to be wired in series not parallel as I did. Thanks for the help......Emil
you should also check your capacitor it could not be the right microfared!!!!!!!
This is something that you shouldn't have to ask...but because you are, it's telling me that you are either a scratcher or even worse, that you are a scratcher! Learn about your tools before you try using them on someone. People like you should not be tattooing.
Wow people are not friendly here at all. they act like they were born with all this tattoo skill and asking questions about it goes against being a tattooist. Sad world we live in. Hope they die out with the dinosaurs.
You know pinhead or whatever they call you, I only ask so that I can learn! There was a time that the only way to learn was to have someone teach you there in person, well welcome to the modern age, where it I have a question I don't have to rely on one "teacher" I can get the answers I seek from many people that are not afraid to share their knowledge. I am too old to put up with the bullsh*t that SOB's like you would put an apprentice through, and I know about the health concerns as I have been working as a chemist/microbiologist for 25 years, and that is why I use my autoclave to be sure thing are sterile. I have been very pleased with the work I have done and so is the guy that they were done on, ME! So pinhead take your machine and sit on it. Some teachers really enjoy sharing the knowledge they have learn over the years and don't require someone to be their slave in trade. I have read where all the "pinheads" put down this or that machine but no one give any reason why or is just because anyone can buy them that wants too, and that of coarse makes them bad. OK what is wrong with Spaulding machines are they bad because they are bad or just because he sell to any one. What makes one any better than another. Lets here some good reason other than if it cost more its better. On that same note someone please take the time to explain to me what the differences between a good liner and a good shader and what makes them good
Wow now I feel so much better to know that if you put carbon steel needles in an autoclave it will oxidze them and creat Clostridium tetani, the bacteria that causes tetanus. And here I thought that an autoclave killed all "germs". What ever would that trained tattooist do if he knew that iron oxide is a pigment used in tattoo ink. Maybe he should go back to microbiology 101!!
dont be discuoraged maybe try to buy a better machine try to stay away from those good deals on the internet they are mostly junk
What makes a machine a better machine? and I know its not price, please explane
well pen what makes a better machine? humm good q here. in my thoughts on this a couple of things make a better machine.so here we go. 1) the operator the person must know how the machine works and functions under power and load. 2) capacitor 3) coil size some like the 8 wrap some like the 10 wrap both are good just depends on what you are doing with them but properly tuned both should produce the results you are looking for.4) tunning a properly tuned machine is vital on its overall performance, everything needs to line up properly 5) power i use eikon digital power unit there are others out there that are better and others that are worse.6) power adjustment voltage and current.7) spring tension both back and front need to have the proper tension.these are just some examples and such but as far as just what i think it really boils down to the machine maker it is the quality put forth towards the making of the machine using the best copper for coils and such.and last but not least experince in running and tuning machines.it can get pretty technical the further we get into it.like one post says stay away from the so called good deals a machine is like a mechanics set of tools and you will get what you pay for.so get a good machine or re vamp your machine hell i use spaulding machines but i have revamped them with better coils and all just the frame is spaulding. so its really a combination of experince and education of properly tuning the machine and proper power supply. hope this helps if not ask me again see what we can do to keep that machine from burning ya. (don)
you might also have a shader machine, but be using it as a liner or vice versa. by the way don't let that sh*t head get to you.
guys like him are the reason i left the industry. they think that it's a man's job and lots of chicks arn't taken seriously. but i tattoo just as well if not better then alot of the guys i've worked with. i've also had several apprintaces that have gone on to have successful carrers. so keep on tattin' in the free world.
Damn girl, not everyone is like that.
Tattoo Brandy!...How ya doin?...If you are so fucking good lets see pics of that great work of yours...and who are the great apprentices you have?....Yeah thats what I thought!
Sorry guys...I'm stll here and couldn't resist this one!!!
And if the poster was using a shader for lining he has NO business tattoing!!!
i also "revamped" a national frame. if you have the knowledge you can make any frame work. just take out the shit and put in the goods. learn your machine before its in the skin not while.
i think the READ BEFORE POSTING should be changed to a different color or somehting. people apparently arent getting the hint. threads like these should be taken down.
Hey. Mostly they are right not to tell you what happens or the trade secrets. If you go to hospital and have to have a serious operation. Would you trust a doctor who just bought "how to operate" manual from Ebay? No of course not. So why would you expect someone to make a permanent ,maybe scarred or bungled attempt on thier skin for life??
Anyway, so I started that way :-P one of the reasons could be:-............ I bought a machine from Ebay, I tested the capacitor and other connections, then I decided to rewind the coils, to make 10`s from 8`s, one of the coils I got to the last fifth of the unwrapping, !!!!!!
there were two seperate pieces! the wires should have been soldered, they are coated and so the one coil was useless. The machine ran on one coil and that was the heat problem.
¬`Course it could be the neg. and pos. leads just need swopping over.
wow some of you guys are real dicks if you could read as well as you put people down youd see the guys just tattooin him self probally with a wasp or some other ultra weak shitty machine hes a shade tree mechanic of sorts hes his own cancis give the guy a break, damn ive been 20 years in the business. the bottoms out of the can people the nation is already over run with scratchers. so do the world a favor and help one out once in a while that way if you truly know so much about tattooing and tuning then the will be one less scratcher. to the guy with the hot machine email me bro and ill give you some top secret info and risk getting banned from the elite asshole club for doing so. use rockyaddict@hotmail put hot tattoo machine in the subject
WOW !!! Taz i just checked out your site bro and i gotta say for being such an expert and critic why dont i see any pis of your work on there??? Yeah thats what i thought
yeah me too
You know like I have said this is not rocket science. I have learned much since I first wrote this post. The biggest thing I have learned it there are many burn-outs that learn this are and to them this is rocket science and they are the ones that tend to be the biggest assholes. Then there are the guys that are afraid to give any info for the fear "Oh you helped a scratcher". I have gone to the shows, and I know at least one great artist that can't tune his own machine, has to send it out to be done. Well I have rebuilt my machines and they do a great job now. Here is the thing ask 10 guy how to do some thing and there will be 10 different ways of doing it. What it comes down to is what ever work for you. I have seen much of what some call art and the guys is world know for it and as far as I'm concerned its garbage, but that’s the great thing, everybody gets to choose what they like. Some artists are great at making their work look just like the flash the customer picked and some can't do that to save themselves but they can do custom work. So I thank all that have give out help to those that ask, and to those of you that think this is still rocket science go smoke another doobie kill a few more brain cell and just convince yourself that I'm just a scratcher and will never get anywhere with out cleaning toilet as they did to get where they are.
For all of you haters trying to discourage a novice because he didn't suck someones dik to get into the art and business of tattooing. I started in prison where you will see some of the most elaborate, time consuming, bitchen tattoos with a graywash that is unsurpassable by most "professional artists" in a shop. Those tattooss are done with a makeshift machine made from a motor off of a walkman and a sharpened guitar needle. The tube is usually a shortened bic fine ball point pen. The ink is made out of the soot from burned tooth paste and baby oil. This is the style that mainstream America is now emulating. So maybe I should tell all you "apprenticed" dickheads that are trying to do that style, you are using the wrong machine and it is not called a "machine" and it is called a gun and you have to know how to make a gun not buy one! I bet I can get down better than most you so called Artists. I'm an artist all around. I Draw, Paint, Airbrush, Sculpt not trace patterns like most of you dipshits!
To the starter or "scratcher" any machine will work but the better you tune it and the better material it is made of then the better your results. not to sound cliche but "practice makes perfect" don't claim to be a pro and ruin somebody though.
