TATTOO'S and an MRI

4 messages · last activity 4/2/2006

I would say that I have about 25% of my body tattooed. Last year I went for 2 seperate MRI'S (and bone scans etc etc.. due to a shattered wrist)..anyways.. When I went in the "MRI TUBE" (not sure what it actually is refered to, but anyone that has had an MRI knows what I mean) for the MRI, they warned me about my tattoo's, and the effect the MRI may have on them. While in the "MRI TUBE" I found my Tats gettin warm. Not to the point where it was burning and painful... but I could definitly feel them warming up. Hope this helps! Baker
I had an MRI last year and did not feel anythiing in the area of my tats? You have more than me of course, but did they say why? The ink heating up? No metals or lead in the ink right?
the ink does have toxic metals in it ......... but ,the mythbusters tested it and found it to not be true.....no specific reaction to mri .
I am heavily inked up...got an mri yesterday and my fuggin whole body EXPLODED!! my liver got blistered and it shriveled my scrotum....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!oh GOD!!!! Just kiddin!! No an MRI is perfectly safe..I have had over 8 in the past year and never felt any effect at all and I have ink from 35 years ago when it did have microscopic metallic flakes in it So No...just another silly rumor!.....................TAz
