tattoo sheddin/extended aftercare

Well i'm back. Its been almost a week since my first tattoo and everything is going pretty good. But yeah I was just wondering if it is normal for the tattoo to shed? I think it is, but it doesnt hurt to ask someone who really knows right? And also i am about out of the A&D ointment the shop provided me with. Is there anything I can buy at my local store, or should i just stop moisturizing it altogether? Thanks Alot, Steve
Yes, the dead skin will shed. You can buy more A & D ointment at the pharmacy(Rite-Aid, Longs Drugs, etc...), but at this point some some lotion should be fine. I would stay away from anything that has aloe vera, fragrance, or any ingredient you may have an allergy to during the rest of te healing process!
Plain unscented lotion is the way to go. Lubriderm intensive care works awesome I use it myself and recommend it to all my clients, heals nice without adverse reaction to colors, just remember to not load up on it. Apply a small amount, mine is usually about the size of a pecil eraser for medium size tattoos. If you still need more put a lil more on.
Alright well my lil store inside my dorms here at Central Michigan only had baby lotion. Any objections to that? I also just remembered i have aloe vera from an insane sunburn i had, would that work too?

Steve, use the baby lotion....I had said stay away from the aloe vera...your leg has probably healed mostly, but aloe vera's properties help extract things from the body. For some this may include the ink, although unlikely at your stage in healing and the limited amount of the extract used from the aloe plant, so use the baby lotion!
Alright sounds like a deal. And btw the tat is on my left side/rib cage. There is a pic of it, kinda blurry, sorry.
Sorry, the leg was someone else I was telling on healing, but same applies. Ribs, no fun!
Yeah im not gonna lie it hurt pretty damn bad. But one more question, it is starting to turn a lil pinkish again, is this because it is new skin coming in as the old dies? or is there a problem with the lotion?
