tattooed to deep

10 messages · last activity 5/5/2006

I just got my second tattoo about 7-8 days ago and on the 3rd day i started to notice that in areas of the tattoo the artist went too deep and scabbing had started to build up. i clean the areas 2-3 times a day and add A&D to it after the cleanings. i also went back to the shop and let them them look at it and they said the guy worked my arm to hard and to come back in 5-6 weeks after it healed for a touch up. Now all of this sounds fine but im just on the chip about all this because it was a very highly reccomended shop and so was the artist. But my main problem is that im scared now that the scabbing is gonna leave scarring that nothing can be done with. Is this normal? Does this happen often? please help.
First I'm not your artist, nor can I see your arm, and it would help to know how long he work on it, did yall take long breaks and the come back and work on it? But based on what you said, I don't think you'll have a huge problem, if it looks like he turned you into ground hamburger, maybe. I usually recomend doing sessions if its a larger piece (more than 5 hours) so that the skin doesn't get "over worked" and start rejecting ink. Your blood starts to clot instantly when punctured so if the artist goes back and works an area that has been tattooed hour earlier it can rip open skin that has started to heal. Depending on how your body heals you may or may not devolop scars. If you want there are things you can do to promote faster healing befor you even get a tattoo, like takeing zinc (gel caps absorb better), and drinking plenty of water to help your body heal tissue damage. I personaly don't recomend useing a+d ointment, or any type of ointment. They can glog your pores, depricating your skin of oxygen, (skin can't heal w/out it). But if your already 1/2 way through the healing process you might want to switch to lubriderm lotion.
the total time was about 1.5 - 2.0 hours of work we took minibreaks aobut 5 min or so. lol no it dont look like ground beef it just looks like that the skin was cut witha razor blade in a "patern" in certain areas of the tat mostly in the black ink areas. the size of the tattoo is about 4 inches tall by 4 inches wide on my shoulder. its a nautical compass. and thanks for your relpy this just starts to freak me out.
I agree almost 100% with Skittlez ( she is so damned smart!)But seriously Without seeing the tattoo all we can tell you is to wait and see how it heals then, if ya trust your artist ( if ya don't ya shouldn't let him touch it!) have him/her touch it up! Hope we have been of some help...TAz, Painted Angel Studios
Thanks alot guys and gals! yea im going to have to wait it out and get it touched up in a few weeks and i guess while that one heals get another touched up and let it heal as well and start planning my next. Ill still go to the same shop....just dont know if ill let the same dude work me next time, and its not cause i dont trust his work he does great work and maybe just went to deep on me by accident, but more cause he didnt leave a lasting impression on me during the work he did for me. thanks for your help guys!
If your scabs have a pattern like cut marks or a snail trail it might be an infection or a reaction to ink, call my shop if you can 704-875-2501 or 704-891-2434 ask for Skittlez
thanks for the chat skittlez! ill get you a pic tonight.

Sounds like if your just seeing it in the lines. and some look like cut in with a razor.....He may have not noticed a hook in one of the needles. Its easy to happen even during a tattoo just from contact with the ink cap. Instead of a neat clean punctute it plows in and pulls flesh on the way out. Since its tiny it can be hard to feel as it happens. Did you notice at some point that he changed the needle? Im NOT saying this is the case, Just a possibility. It Happens.
