Tattoos

I am looking at some tattoos...and i was wondering what the level of pain is on it. i am very scared of needles, but since the needle gun they use pokes into your skin 3,000 time a minute i am wondering how much it hurts in relation to something else. And what if something goes wrong? Whats the worst that could happen?
