Tiki Mask Tattoo

8 messages · last activity 6/17/2006

Anybody have any ideas, have any tattoo flash or have any suggestions in regards to a Tiki mask tat, I'm thinking about getting a bad-ass looking one on my back (red, brown, maybe alittle bit of yellow) but have no idea where to start
I'm kinda talking from the back of my brain on this one, but It seems like I was remembering that there is a real significance to Tiki masks, more than just that party thing we tend to think of. I'd do some research on Polynesian, Tahitian, etc. religeons, myths etc. and find out the meaning. (Scare people maybe? Can't remember) From there, you could work with a custom guy with some picture references to come up with something perfect!
ditto!
yeah, research the Tiki and go to Steve Morris at American Tattoo.
i would suggest lookin at some Shag art. www.shag.com, and any big bookstore (borders, barnes and noble) should have a book of his prints that you can look at. he does a lot with tikis, and has some kick-ass artwork you could use either as your actual piece or as inspiration. i am actually thinkin of getting one of his pirates as a tattoo. my fiance is actually going to be using some of his pieces as inspiration for his tattoo, as he is obsessed with tikis, lol. if you use the website and want to see prints and stickers and stuff, you can go to merch. (merchandise), and then shagmart will give you the best prints and such. but, i would really suggest going to the store and looking through a book of prints, a lot more there :) -Ducky
Not exactly Tiki Masks, but the Easter Island Statues are really cool looking too.
I have always been fascinated by the Easter Island Heads...and have always wanted to do a full back scenario of them in collage I dunno they have a polynesian flavor but at the same time they are kinda ...well...CREEPY!!!...T
Shag does a lot of tikis, not very big ones, but tikis none the less :) i'll try and pull a few pics when i get back from my parents' house
