Too old?

Ok, so I am 30 years old, and have loved tattoos since I saw Grandpa's WW2 souvenier (couldn't read the damn thing, but hey, I still thought it was cool). I have wanted to be a tattoo artist since high school. I used to draw A LOT! Ok, so mainly comic books and cartoons, but I think I was pretty good. So now I am trying to dust off the old drawing skills and want to find out if I am even good enough to get an apprenticeship. The question I have is twofold. First, do I have to be a gifted artist to hack it in the tattoo world? And would anyone established take on a 30 year old guy as an apprentice?

One of the best artists that I know didn't start even being an apprentice until he was around 40. Age has nothing to do with it. Besides the older you are the less chance you'll end up an ego filled superstar... I'm only in my mid twenties and I'm very mature and handle things with an iron fist... But at the same time I catch myself playing god every once and a while. Most of the younger tattooists I've dealt with are allright... But some have a tendancy to think that they're god's living gift to the tattoo industry... That and they know it all.... Even taz says he's still learning.... e v o l v e.... thanks and good luck... 30 is too old? How about you come back and ask this question when you are 70 and have shaky hands.... don't worry about it!

what about Gramma Moses! too old! HA! I would say the only thing that hinders starting anything new as we get older is what financial baggage we have accrued over the prior years (mortgage, car loans, KIDS, etc..) It's hard to switch careers. Good luck!

i was kinda thinking the same as what sixfour was, im 33 and thourght id missed my window? who knows, its good to hear the positive feedback. this is working hahahaha :)
