Trends

Okay, I have a new questiony/poll... What are the newest trends? What do you get the most requests for? I'm just remembering the tribal craze. I don't know if it's still as popular as it was, and I know Kanji is pretty big. ... bleh... Kanji, not my thing. (But that's me, whatever floats your boat!)
I teach Graphic Design, and so my students are all artists. I have a lot of students with tattoos, and I still see a lot of tribal stuff. I can never figure out why people want to do that. One guy got a "Tribal Dragon" Why tribal? Or that post about a "Tribal Dove" Why tribal? What is it about tribal that makes people think it's cooler? What do you ink slingers think? I can't really figure out why people take an idea and feel like they have to "tribalize it".... No offense to anyone with Tribals... just wondering what the draw is?
The Nautical Star is the Taz of the 2000's.............looney tunes taz......not tattoo taz.
Tibetan writing, Arabic writing...any goddamn foreign writing....I hate that crap almost as much as I hate tribal...almost...and yes that fuckin nautical star ...what is it with the star? I ask clients and they can't tell me..."it just looks cool" Yeah you saw it on myspace too huh?... DAMIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!! TAz
Easy on the foriegn writing a little ya cranky ol' bastard! (lol) I've got a little chinese on me! (I've earned it though)
stars are the tattoo of the moment it seems. And tribal just keeps going strong! But we still do the occassional british bulldog. Seems those trends will never go away, even when trying to talk them out of it!
The funny thing about the nuatical star is, that the one everybody wants isnt even a nautical star, its just a beveled five pont star. The real nautical star is a compass...with 8 points for all the directions.
I got a trend for ya...."I'm 14/15/16 and want a tattoo of something cute/cool."
Well.. I suppose that's more timeless than poking poultry. Uh oh.. did I say that? -ducks and runs- Just playin!
Now you quit that Saiyge! Jwerk is sensitive!
-Gives Jwerk a cuddle- I'm sorry, I couldnt help myself. He's doing something I can't, even if it -is- to a limp chicken. oh.. I did it again.....
And NOW yer talkin dirty!! I'm gonna have to keep my eye on you huh saiyge?
stars!!!! you name it nautical, solid color, shaded, or just outlined any type of damn star. also lettering seems big along with kanji.. i feel that people get tribal and kanji for the fact that it is somewhat vague and abstract. that way they dont have to stay true to what they get. for example if you get a christ head or a portrait you usually need to back somethng like that up. where as tribal or kanji are vague. just my thoughts.
Good point Crock!
Hey now, I wasn't talking dirty... exactly. :P As far as Tribal goes, I can see the allure, it can be violently graceful, you can hide all sorts of things in it, and it doesnt exactly have to make sense. The stars though, and those bloody cherries I see everywhere..... I don't quite get it.
The 5 pointed beveled star a.k.a. "Orange Counti Kanji" is always big with the kids who think they're being cool. Thank god that stupid Godsmack sun has slowed down, but then again, I refuse to do them anymore. However, they have a new album, so I'm sure there will be a whole new generation wanting it.
