Hi i was wondering if you could help me out, i've got six tattoos from the same place, and i got allergic reactions that got worse and worse, not around the tattoo but like physical reactions such as difficult breathing, felt like my face was sweling up. And i was wondering are there different types of inks, like perhaps i went somewhere else who used a different type would it be safter? Thank you for your time

I would go to an allergist and request a scratch test if you're concerned with allergies, tell him your concerns and they can run with it from there. What are you using for aftercare? If you're using Baccitration or Neosporin, those products contain zinc and if you have a zinc allergy, that could be contributing to your symptoms, so make sure you run that by your allergist as well.
are you allergic to latex? if you are and the artist is wearing latex gloves that could be part of the problem. like krystoff suggested go to an allergist. latex allergies can be serious and result in anaphalactic shock when coming into contact with latex. if youre allergic to latex no big deal just have your artist wear nytrile gloves when tattooing you, setting up their machines, bandaging you, etc.
Damn, I didn't even think of the Latex- where I work, Nitrile or Synthetic are required per our regulations, and I forgot about latex all together. Good call Crocket!
I was told though i can't get an allergy test unless a doctor referenses me, and its unlikely he would do that unless it was something affecting my everyday life. Also what i was thinking it might be was something to do with antibiotics cause last time i had penicilin i got hives, so maybe the bactine he put on afterwards? Is there anything else that may have antibiotics in it?
I've heard from some of the guys that i get tattoos from that RED ink can cause a reaction..
unfortantly not all my tattoos have red ink in them....and on my last set of tattoos i got one did have red in it and i think i did get a bit of a reaction and that was actually around the tattoo and botched the coloring on it, so thats my general thinking if its a reaction to the tattoo why aren't my other tattoos messed up, they aren't, the last one i talked about was a set and the and the one without red turned out perfectly fine.....
I was looking for information on this subject and I came accross your story. I have three tattoos and they all have red ink. one on my right shoulder I got in dallas in 1992. the two on my ankle i got in fort lauderdale in 2001. three months ago. they all reacted at the same time. itching, scabbing , bleeding . open sores. puffy swollen. their bad.. it really sux. 15yrs later my tatts reacted.. i've gone to the dermatologist twice and tried two different things and nothing seems to be working.. they really hurt and itch like crazy. if anyone knows of a successful rememdy please post it thanks.. jeff
A method that has worked well for us is to have a competent tattoo artist go over the area with distilled and sterile water...seems to help the body disperse the problem pigment and doesn't scar of done properly
i got my 3rd tattoo about a month ago and i started getting dry itchy hive looking spots on my face stomach and neck about 3 weeks after..i went to the doctor and they didnt know what it was and the only thing they could think of is that its the red ink in my latest tattoo...does anyone know how i can find out for sure if thats what it is?..or will i have to get them removed or anything?
