Like the title says, I am sketching a traditional Japanese koi tattoo. But it has come to my attention that the tattoo placement and its surroundings are based on the season ex: a koi swiming up the river with maple leaves indicates that is autum. So my question is what other combinations are there????? thanks...
what combination of flower or leaves go together with a traditional koi .

Research Research that's about all the help I can be but i'm sure you've obviously got a computer( not being a smartass ) use it. Google Koi Folklore and legends. Google everything I'm not a biologist but I bet Koi don't travel upstream all year round, or if they travel at all. Salmon don't. know what i'm saying? Almost everything involving nature has been studies tremendously and in great depth by every culture and most of this information could be found online if you look hard enough. Koi's just a big ugly carp. that comes in lots of colors. But it has a huge place in certain myths and legends and possibly even belief systems. I"m not an encyclopedia for pretty fish and far eastern culture but I know how to find the people and websites that are. You may want to browse this site a bit further too , search the archives I"m sure there was a nice discussion about the Koi and it's various meanings and certain legends as well.
This website has a lot of information on it about the symbology of the koi.
