Whatcha' Listenin' To?

What kind of tunes do y'all like to hear when you're tattooing?? I know some out there like the serenity and quiet setting with no more than the buzzing of tattoo machines and birdies outside. Others, like the guys at my shop, like screaming death metal. What kind of stuff do you guys play?
in the shop i work at we have an artist that likes old country, like willie nelson hank williams and hank the 3rd johnny cash. then a chic that likes top 40. i like everaything from audio slave to mr. bungle. so our shop has a very wide range of tunes, but i love that buzz of my pulse.
Tool, Him, 10 years, Type O Negative
40 below summer, coheed& cambria, hot action cops, kansas,my own music......LOUD...ALL OF IT ...LOUD!!!! TAz
I wish i could listen to Coheed & Cambria, the Darkness and HIM all day... But my crew needs their metal so such is not the case. A littl rap and hip-hop dont hurt neither
we have a 300 disc changer and everyone gets 60 slots... ranges from old Hank Williams to Sepultura to Rise Against to Public Enemy to Dropkick Murphys to Elliot Smith to Motorhead to Rancid to Slayer to Mozart to Johnny Cash..... i think y'all get the idea. This disc changer has saved so much on in-shop fighting and squabbles, cause all we do is hit random and let it go for the day. Though it leads to some bizzare mixes like "Ace of Spades" to the Amelie soundtrack. But we all like it. as a sidenote, going into shops [conventions is a different matter]and seeing artists listening to their ipods while tattooing seems kinda disrespectful, as that they are ignoring the client.
NUGGENT GREAT WHITE BUFFALO yeah this here guitar just absoulety refuses to play any sweet mellow pussy shit!! do ya hear me talkin at ya. zepplin, hendrix, morrison, eagles, stevie ray vaughn, clapton, etc etc LOUD LOUD oh yeah and ozzy and who can forget angus young rock on.
Deadbolt, Chingon, John Lee Hooker, SRV, BB King, Coltraine, Miles, Buddy Guy, Skynard, Danzig, Type O Negative, Social D, Ness, Elvis Presley,, New Age music, and pretty much anything else that is not distracting or getting on the nerves to me or my clients. I love Death and Black Metal of all kinds, but I don't feel that the workplace where it is important for people to be relaxed is the right place. Just my 2 cents though.
Like Krystoff and Sassmouth, I have a wide variety of stuff I will listen to, but when I play music while working its not for me anyway, it is for the customer. I keep alot of music stored on a computer, and have a different file folder for each catagory, I give my customers the option of television/movies or music, what ever type of music the customer likes, I will set up a random play for that folder. this suits me well because I dont have to mess with it once its set up. also, it doesnt really matter what music is being played, to me its just background noise, I dont seem to hear anything while Im slinging, I get too engrossed in my work to listen.
i listen to a lot of stuff... i was just listening to Way Out West, but now i'm on A Clubbers Guide to Trance.... but am toking off a bong right now, so i need the trippy stuff you know.... Last weekend it was massive attack...
Bachs Fugue in G
Two days ago we were looking for something to play and while looking thru one of the guys' cd books we found "Tatu"....What the hell?!....So we flogged him.
TATU, LOL!!! Well if i was an artist i would probaly listen to everything from Drum N Bass to Jungle to Ambient to Metal to Hip Hop... I listen to everything, but not too much country or classical... My tat artist has a very eclectic mix... i rarely ever hear any band i know when i'm getting tat'd... the other guys in the shop play sometimes classic rock, or classic old school metal or even the new metal out there... my artist he plays stuff i've never heard before... he's turned me onto a lot of great music over the past 10+ months i been here... and i've turned him onto Opeth...
Well, I don't tattoo, but if I did, I'd be listening to: 1. Doperide by Saliva 2. Before I forget-Slipknkot 3. Cold Sweat-Thin Lizzy 4. Roller-April Wine 5. Great White Buffalo-Terrible Ted 6. Die Die my Darling-Misfits 7. Hate the living love the dead-Misfits 8. Maybe a little Birthday Massacre... 9. Iron Maiden... Number of the Beast
the chipmunks christmas album, julio iglassias, and engelbert humperdink when i really feel like getting into a groove.. oh and i almost forgot olivia newton john you cant beat a song like lets get physical. it just makes me think about leg warmers. fortunately i was only a teen in the 80"s unlike our buddy taz ht8 mccroktus mouth or whatever the hell he changed his name to...

Well I'm a DJ and i produce and i listen to my own music sometimes too... to me i'd rather have the exposure then the $ sometimes... and by listening to your own music, it gets your music out there and played ya know..i don't see no problem w/ it... however, if you want to hear what i create you can find it on my webpage.... it's a link off it: http://www.angelfire.com/crazy/tatz/ that's where my sketchbook is...

our shop has been on a tool and a perfect circle kick since the ned tool CD came out. all tool all day long.
I am apprenticing at a country ass shop. All I hear all day is country hits, country top 40, classic country. I dispise country like a disease it eats at my will to live. I try to draw or paint to that crap and all my shit looks like crap. Any suggestions on getting past the nails on a chalkboard effect. ps: Metal, hard metal, really hard metal, and a lil sinatra
Tom Waits. ... Oh yea.
The Disco Biscuits
lots of metal and the local college station which plays a variety of music and is commercial free. the music depends upon the dj at the time as they play what they like mostly but you can get a request in no problem. when the dj isnt there is automated but the only have a small amount of soungs programmed in so far so you get a lot of repeats. ive got a lot of songs memeorized by bands i have no clue about..lol.. also when i get a few cds in the player i tend to play them for a few well sometimes all week long. with radio breaks in between. it drives my co=-workers crazy. anyone else have this problem? i guess i just get in a grove and dont want to break it by searching thru a few hundred cds...
If anyone is a Chilli Peppers fan you NEED to check out Stadium Arcadium. The Peppa's are soundin' so damn good! Good stuff to relax and whip out some crazy drawing to. Haven't had it at the shop yet.....J
TAz, Remind me later to email you the Danny Carey (Tool) photo from the NAMM show last year. He was wearing a shirt that tied in nicely with the theme of yesterdays discussions. I wish I knew where he got it, and didn't think to ask. Kansas huh, I still listen to their early stuff. I don't tattoo, but my artist runs his IPod through the system in the shop, and he's got a nice variety of music on there. I haven't heard anything twice in the 18 or so hours I've been in the shop. Personally, I'm a prog-rock, jazz-fusion, big band nut. That shit gets me amp'd up, and resonates perfectly with pain! TCE
yeah tce i gotta large ipod sittin here since xmas. i just cant find the time to download 600 cds. eventually ill get it going and wont hear the same thing twice for a few weeks.
A few weeks huh? Of course, if I'd get my ass out and start working on something, I might start running some CD's. I bought the new Tool CD, and like TAz said, Tool sounds like Tool. I'll have to run it in the background for a while to burn it into my brain before if I know if I like it. Those usually turn out to be my favorites. TCE
