White on black Tattoo

I like many people had a Tattoo done when i was younger that i started to hate, i have since had a cover up done, a tribal design, but the cover up had to include a large amount of black ink and where there would normally be skin in between, had to also be coloured therefore even though the design is fine i feel it needs brightening up. Can a white tattoo be placed over a black/coloured tattoo, to either cover it or create a ghosting effect, even if it has to be gone over a few times?
You'll have a pretty hard time laying white into a black tattoo and having it look good being that tattoo ink is a pigment, not a paint that you can put coats over, the darker pigment will usually show right through it, and especially in a coverup over a coverup situation, you could run the risk of scarring at this point by over traumatizing the skin in that area (especially if done by an incompetant artist). Without seeing the tattoo, it's hard to make any suggestions, but perhaps if you are a little flexible on the size, you could incorporate something else with the tribal with some brighter colors?
hey,i recently got simply a black outline of wings btwn my shoulders..not too big, unfortunately,i reaaally feel i dont want it ther anymore,or ATLEAST faded or covered with white..slightly scarring the skin is a risk i am willing to take, since i hear laser removal scars too!! so i just wanted to know if i cud coverup that outline with white? thanx a million!!
I have had some success in overlying white images over solid black for a ghosty kinda image ...just don't expect to get a sharp image ..it just won't happen.... but the wispy ghosty thing CAN be done if you are VERY careful about not overworkin the skin.....Its a good way to provide some aesthetic relief on those huge tribal cover ups that all the scratchers were doin for a couple of years..T
hey there. i have some large black silhouettes of birds on my back that have been given depth, intensity, and realism with white ink over the black. i think they are beautiful now, as before they were very flat. the artist that added the white ink was very excited to do so, as it's something that he has been interested in in the past few years. one bird has had the white on it for about a year and it really pops, the other tattoo is a bit more subtle, but beautiful, and it's only been there for about 6 months or so. the artist intentionally made the upper bird more subtle as, perspective wise, it's farther away. and, like another commenter said, it's nearly ghostly, but very detailed. the intricacies are hard to see from far away, but, up close, it's really amazing. i'm very happy with my tattoos now. before, where when they were only black, i didn't care so much for them. i say get the white, but don't expect it to take the place of skin that's been covered up. the white really is a nice effect on the black but it won't ever be bright white.
Fuck white ink. Go get lasered. Rethinkyourink.com. Its the only way to get a really good cover up.
