White went yellow.. how to fix?

8 messages · last activity 5/5/2006

I have a scene in a sleeve and my white went real ugly.. turned yellow and blotchy and looks dirty! I don't really want color there but would be ok with a light Grey.. Do you think Lt Grey would be a good solution? If not, what do you suggest I do to fix this problem? :) Also have red roses and they are quite dark.. how do I lighten them so they are bright and not so dark and muddy? Any advice would help.. thank you!
Before I say ANYTHING i would need to see your tattoo ...can you possibly e-mail me a photo?..Cilck on my name above for my e-mail addy!...TAz
"White went yellow.. how to fix?" In the words of Rodney Dangerfield: "Wear a brown neck tie." Sorry, smartass comment. I've heard white is often a problem on people with anything other than Irish white complexions or sun lovers... my totally unprofessional opinion is to get work that uses un-tatted skin or negative space in lieu of "white" wherever possible...from what I've heard, except for very pale clients, white is best saved for cutting other colors and ocasional highlights on a tat...or experimentation when becoming yellow will not detract... sorry to hear about your problem.
Tattoo ink is pigment so any color lighter than your skin tone won't show. Usually to lighten up dark roses I high-light the tips with a bright yellow. As for the white problem it would help to see it adn know how old it is, most of the time it fades out to your skin tone. PS your tattoo will not tan, only fade so keep sun block on it when outside
God I HATE this but I gotta disagree! Ya don't have to be lilly white for white to take although it helps...White is very hard to put in in such a manner that it stays in but it CAn be done...As for yellowing that can be caused by a lot of biological factorsduring healing some external some internal which is all moot since in your case the damage is already done Again I would venture nothing till seeing the tattoo!......TAz
You the man Taz! When it comes to tattoos, and possibly many more things, I'd take Taz's word over mine anyday!
Now you quit that bou!...My little cheeks are gettin all rosy!!! Thanks tho!!!
I'm getting a large portion of my tattoo with white ink, and my skin is definately darker than lily white. My mom is white and my dad is black, so my skintone isn't super dark, but I'm at the very least goldeny tan and sometimes darker when I tan from outdoors stuff. I'm really excited about the white as it's going to give a purply-blue opal-translucent effect layered the way it's going to be. My artist didn't have any hesitations about it, so I guess it really just depends on alot of variables. I've only heard of the darkest skin tone not being able to hold some form of color or white. Personally I think white is a real unique tool that can go from very sharp to very muted and bring alot of different connotations to a piece of art. I'm so sorry to hear that the white you were planning on didn't turn out as you hoped! ahlyn
