lets see your art. Kinda cheesy way to go about getting an apprenticeship, but hey... all anyone should care about in deciding to apprentice you is your art(well, and temperament, smarts, dedication, and other qualities needed), not your money.
Gabe i agree 100% with you but lets face it man.. nowadays the all mighty $ is king...and getting some1s attention about an apprenticeship is hard as hell. if u are serious about seeing some of my work please email me and i will forward you some stuff.. thanx man [email removed]
dang!!.. wut does a guy have to do to get an apprenticeship?
Well first and foremost, you have to do a bit more than post in a forum with money as leverage. Most people I know who have been lucky enough to acquire apprenticeships had usually researched shops on their own, taken time to spend time at the shops getting tattooed and expressing their interest, showing their art, asking for brutal critiques, showing a huge willingness to work hard and devote much of their time (not just money) to learning about the art of tattooing. Realistically speaking many shops don't seek out apprentices, nor do they use financial gain as a reason to have one. I would be more active in your attempts. Hit the streets! Check out local shops, bring your art around, look at their portfolios, show them you're interested and dedicated. And personally, I wouldn't bring up the $5000. Let them lead the conversation as far as what they're looking for. It's not guaranteed, but generally I'd say someone who would just take your $5000 and not care about much else you have to offer artistically and otherwise, probably isn't the best person to apprentice under anyways.
"Money is king?" thats soooo bush/reagan era.. I dont give a fuck how much money you have, you should post up a link so we can see your art if your seriously looking for an apprenticeship. Or spend 2 thousand of that and get a sleeve from a sick artist and see what advice they give you. Telling people you have 5k without posting any art, I mean, that in and of itself means its hard to take you seriously. Seems to me like your an inpatient rich prick who thinks that he can buy anything he wants... I would be disappointed if anyone DID respond, but I imagine they will at some point. Have you read the previous posts about getting an apprenticeship? Get better at your art and get tattooed and if your art is good enough you will find advice and an artist to teach you the responsible way. Post links so we can see your art and let you know our best advice.... your money aint no good without some serious art and a good personality...
i wish i was rich Gabe... haha....i dont take any offense to what you said.. you are right.. i am inpatient...but not a rich prick...i have tried to seek an apprenticeship in the conventional way but ive had no luck... putting up the $5k post was kind of a last resort.. i figured some greedy bastard would take the bait.... its pretty hard to get into the industry nowadays cuz there are so many people tryin to break in due to the whole reality TV craze... maybe ill just become a scratcher and teach myself.. JK!.... well ill keep at it. ill post some pics soon....... maybe ill come see dan henk do his thing next month.
Well, thats good news. It really is all about the portfolio. And getting tattooed by good artists and taking their advice. 5k will be helpful when a studio says "that'll cost ya 5k" and you wont have to blink, but you dont want a greedy bastard teaching you just for the $$$ anyways. Who are you getting tattooed by? Definitely say hi is your coming up for Dan Henks painting seminar, he will spend all day with people. very worth it!
if you are willing to move to Oregon and take a course at a tattoo school. Oregon is currently the only state where you MUST attend an accredited Tattoo school to recieve a license. After your licensed you will have a portfolio and a great reference. I think it is wise if you are not able to get apprenticed to get licensed and use the refrences from Oregon to get hired at a shop. I reccomend Forbidden Body Art. Good Luck, Dont give up, (YER MONEY) "thINK"
