*smiles. . . honey, first rule of thumb . . . never. . .ever . .EVER . . never, refer to such a sacred tattoo instrument, as a gUn! this slang of such a fine MACHINE, depreciates it's true conception of standing. Start by pronouncing this sacred tool of machinery, by identifying and addressing it by it's true and correct title, which basically, is just that, sweetie......a machine!......and not a gun.

This really can be your first lesson, in the idustry, but certainly not your last. *smiles. . . . I believe nobody has taken the time to correct you, and that is sad. I have known only one female tattoo artist in the 27 years I have been tattooing. women in the industry really have to fight twice as hard to achieve status, not only in our industry(tattooing/piercing), but other forms of business, as well. so keep your chin up, and don't let yourself become discouraged, as mankind puts it..."It's a mansworld" it's not! It's god's world. And when god decides whats good for you. . . things will come together more simpler, less obstacles and they'll appear to fall into place alot easier. *smiles - don't worry good things are coming for you. I really don't believe in "LUCK" so to speak, so I'll just wish you "Good Faith" ok? take care - D.Storm
you are a sweet man. thank you for not taking what i said to heart.no one has takin any time to even veiw my work here, they say that they have enough people and its true 6 to 7 artist in a shop. im not giveing up on my dream though and still looking for a shop near orlando....if anyone can help email me.... thank you.
I may be old fashioned here, but I still believe there is a lot to be said for presentation. Take your initial post for instance. All caps, you're yelling. This isn't a professional attitude. I believe, (and in fact I am one), it's possible to be a professional creative. The more seriously you take your work, your career, your passion, then others will have no choice but take notice.
The next thing I would suggest is a killer portfolio. There is no denying the truth. Any shop owner/operator worth their weight, will be able to see good work with thier own eyes. When you have a good portfolio, showing what you are capable of, that will speak more than all of the ALL CAPS messages you will ever type. Another thing is to watch how "cocky" you come across. You will never know everything there is to know. Accept that even with your impressive fruit collection, there is a lot to be learned, admit to it, revel in it.
It's true, you are in fact, at a disadvantage. One that has existed for many more years than you have been alive. How you choose to approach that, will be a display of how you honestly feel about this as a profession.
If you approach it with a professional attitude, and take serious action. Then you will have professional and serious results.
I agree with Adoom, presentation, dedication and professionalism go a long way, and that is with anything in life! While I am not a tattoo artist, I do understand how you feel being the "underdog". Try being a female drummer.... When I started playing many people did not take me seriously, or they thought it wouldn't last long.... there were jokes of the band the Go' Go's (ACK!), when I gigged and would bring my gear in, people would think I was the drummer's girlfriend or the band bitch. Well, for years I practiced my ass off... Result? My hard practice and determination paid off. I got a drumstick endorsement, a Modern Drummer write up and a few other write ups in musician mags. I was fortunate enough to land myself in an awesome band as well which I learned a lot from. My advice? Keep practicing, keep pushing, keep being true to yourself and what you believe in.... Things will pay off and you will earn the respect from many people... And, most importantly, from yourself! Good Luck to you!
I HAVE THOUGHT ALOT ABOUT WHAT HAS BEEN SAID AND YOU ARE RIGHT. I HAVE A PORTFILLIO, BUT MAYBE NOT A PRIZE IN ITS SELF. I HAVE NEVER REALY TALKED TO A ARTIST TO KNOW WHAT THEY LOOK FOR, OR HOW I SHOULD PRESENT MYSELF IN THIS FEILD..EVEN THOUGH I WORK WITH PEOPLE EVERYDAY AS A MANEGER FOR A VIDEO GAME STORE.PLEASE I NEED YOUR HELP HOW DO I GO ABOUT MAKING A KILLER PORTFILLIO
