I live in PA the laws says that if a minor has there legal guardian with them that there is no age limit for tattooing them.Today i had a mother and father bring a 14 year old girl that to me looked not a day older then 12 and wanted me to tattoo a butterfly on the top of her hand.It is not against the law in my state but man.I have an open mind but something just did not feel right about that. What would you do in that case?
Would you tattoo a 14 year olds hand?

Gotta do what's right for you.
I don't tattoo (just receive hehe), but I wouldn't have done it.
At 14, it's highly unlikely you really know who you are yet. Possible, but HIGHLY unlikely. She also obviously hasn't thought it through: much as I love tattoos, they are not exactly socially acceptable, and having the top of her hand tattooed could make it extremely difficult later on down the road when faced with career decisions.
I remember being 14, it wasn't that long ago for me. I had no clue who I was, what I wanted to do with my life, and wouldn't know who I was until after I gave birth to my own child. At this point, she's still a child (a child who may not LOOK like a child, but a child nonetheless), and isn't capable, mentally or emotionally, in making a decision like this, or dealing with the consequences of such.
No i wouldnt tattoo the little girls hand. I WOULD TATTOO DUMB ON THE DADS FOREHEAD AND ASS ON THE MOTHERS.
I not only would have refused to attoo the child I would have given the parent a piece of my mind...a BIG LOUD piece just befroe throwing her out of my studio...T
Thanks for the comments.
No way, we wouldn't tattoo anyone under 18 for any reason, legal or not...
NO! Don't do it. It's wrong, and obviously, in your gut, you know it. Better answer would be to turn the folks in to child services for fucking putting their child in a situation like that in the first place. Idiots. As Taz always says, STUPID SHOULD FUCKING HURT.
I am most curious to know if you did in fact tattoo the 14 year old. I know you said it didn't feel right, but you didn't actually state if the tattoo was or was not done.
Just wondering..
I would never even think about it.For many reasons.I was just wondering how others felt being that its a legal tattoo to do.I would not be suprised if they found someone to do it anyway.
Good on ya. I didn't think that you did, but I just wanted to clarify, cause I'm one of those super curious peoples. :o) I wasn't asking just to be an asshole or anything.
where do you work at in PA? philly by any chance? let me know
Hey Theval...haven't talked in a while...how ya doin?...T
Hi TAz!
I dropped ya an e-mail and a comment a couple days ago...
I'm good... just livin life.
and trying to decide what the hell i want to eat....i'm freaking starving.....
how YOU doin?
Some people just don't give a shit!!I am the father of two young daughters and I would beat em' in the head till the white meat shows( just kidding I would never hit my girls) for even bringing up the idea no matter how old they are and I too would have given the parents a piece of my mind before I showed them the door with my foot in their @!@#$$#$$$.
I also encountered a similar problem a few years back at a convention in Ohio where a young girl who said she was 16 years old wanted a similar tattoo on her hand and I refused to do it and guess what about 2 hours later she came prancing back by my booth with her @#$%#@^&*%$ mother and some piece of @#$%!^&^%$# had tattooed the poor girl and did a @#@!#%$%$$ up job to boot. Some peopl just don't give a shit like I said before and sad but true someone else probably did do the tattoo for her..
It sucks that people don't give a shit about stuff like that, especially when it comes down to parents. On the bright side, you always get to see em' later when they come in for their cover up :)
But guys you are missin the point...sure that girls parents (in BOTH stories) are stupid fucks, but if the tattoo artists had just REFUSED to do the damn tattoo the whole problem would not have existed.
It just pisses me off to no end that these piece of shit asswipes that call themselves Tattoo Artists that will tattoo anything on anybody at any age as long as the cash is there...no ethics at all...its people likle that who drag this ancient art of ours through the mud!....I hate em!...T
(I am from marshalls creek P.A) . I think sometimes it comes down to how the artist was brought up.My mother still does not like tattoos and i am a artist for a while and she would have killed me and the artist that did it.I see the stuff all the time with young kids in my area.Every area has that guy or girl that will tattoo anything for drug money or whatever. But were are the parents?I would definetly be there in someones face if they tattooed my child with no permission. No one says nothing from what i see.And the police dont care or state most of the time because it makes them no money .They care about drug addicts because they can make them go to there state rehab to drain more tax dollars but they have no way of draining tax money on this one so they leave it alone.
I have to tell the professional here that stick to thier guns, and Morals, and refuse to do these young kids. As a parent I can tell you that if some F*ck tattoo'd my daughter at 14 they would be asking the police for help, because I am not sure the medical profession could pull the Tattoo gun from that deep in thier a$$. As a Fahter and a parent who cares, THANK YOU, and Keep up the High Standards you guy's & girls set, My Girl is 18 now and I have told her I would be proud to go with her to get a tattoo if she wants one,
Murph..you got it right bro...here in my state the authoriteis didn't give a flyin fuck until some big time fatcat politicians daughter got a bad infection from a scratcher THEN the shit hit the proverbial fan!! within 6 months there were over a dozen so called "artists" charged with felonies for tattooing minors and/or tattooing illegally in their homes ( no now don't start I have nothing against a good artist working from their home if they are real artists and have the training and equipment necessary to do a clean safe tattoo and they are licensed by state and local authorities!) There are some counties here that charge the offending "artist" with a felony child endangerment and if that doesn't work they charge them with practising medicine without benefit of license ( which they seem to be able to get off because tattooing IS an invasive proceedure..they can also fall back on Child molestation charges!....Its just a damn shame they couldn't have done this when it involved the normal working class people huh?
And Blacktri...we need more parents like you who stand up and say "No! Not my kid...not on MY watch!!"..Thanks man!...TAz
And
It falls to the fault of both. The "artists" that tattoo anyone underage, without consent, should have their licenses revoked. The artists who would even consider tattooing someone under 18, even with parental consent, need to check their ethics. From what I can see, most of the tattooed/tattooers here would prefer anyone wait PAST 18.
The parents, who either consent to a 14 year old getting a tattoo, or not speaking up when their child comes home with one, need to get a grip. Like another parent said, I would NEVER, EVER bring my 14, 16, maybe even 18 year old daughter to get a tattoo. And if she ever came home with one, underage, without my consent, the "artist" would have to pray to everything holy that he would be able to avoid my wrath. I'm talking health department, local authorities, CPS, whoever I can get my claws into.
I understand that kids are hard to deal with, but the point is this: your child's health could have been severely affected, and now they'll be stuck with an immature tattoo for life.
i had parents bring a 15 year old girl in and wanted me to pierce her nipples.
my responce was GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY SHOP.
then fallowed with sick perverts.
i personally wont tattoo hands or neck on any one under 25 unless they have a shit load of tattoos.
i think the tattoo age lower limit should be raised to at 21. might mean a little less revenue, but less stupid barbed wire bicep tattoos, and lizards and dolphins and tribal cum catchers. waste of ink i.m.o.
