WTF people???

Tattoonow.com has a flash submission thing going on and as far as I know, the only people so far that are confirmed are myself, Taz, and Jamie Cross. I know other artists are busy, but this is pretty much aimed at all of the aspiring at home draw-ers that feel that they deserve an apprenticeship just for the asking. THIS IS THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU. Proove that you are capable of using the art skills that you claim that you have and submit a piece of flash that is yours! Not only will it make more artists see your talent, but you never know who will see it and say"damn, I'd apprentice this guy or girl in a second!" These opportunities don't pop up often and instead of sitting around complaining that nobody will apprentice you, you should be jumping on this chance like a teenager on prom night. Let's see what you got! BTW Taz, I'm now 85% done with mine!!
Hey whats up? my name is anthony, i am a tattoo artist at Painted Angel. i work under Taz. i am currently working on this project as well and i am about 87 % done. i just figured i would let you all know. -ANT-
Despite how much I know you all love me I'm drawing too. I just reccently folded some interesting kanzashi ornaments so I'm doing a couple of studies of them and some geisha and then some twists on modern geisha. I know Japanese is kinda saturated the market, but I was thinking of doing ultra traditional geisha (complete regaila) versus J-pop anime type girls. Let me know what you think I know you all are so wonderfully honest. ahlyn
Just thought I'd throw in a funny tidbit from the depths of myspace... I had someone email the query: "how do I become a tattoo artist, I'm really interested?" I replied, pointing them to the article: "5 Steps to Getting an Apprenticeship" by Crucial Ink (on another ezine). I was going to also suggest the apprenticeship 101 thread here, until I got this new question from the aspiring 'artist.' It said simply: "What is an apprenticeship?" I quit. Here's your sign. -Kandyman Joe

Ahlyn...Can we see some of your work? Sounds interesting....TAz
Here's a link to a geisha head I'm working on Clearly it's not done...smudges, lines, etc, in progress but best I have at the moment http://s44.photobucket.com/albums/f10/ahlyn/?action=view¤t=Geishasmoke.jpg
Sorry my prior post was not quite on topic... Krystof's flash submission post made me think about the "apprentice" email. Anyway, Ahlyn... I like the timeless style of the piece... I like that isn't trying to be "knock you over the head" new school. Classy. (I love new school stuff too, don't get me wrong) It shows potential, keep working at it! I'd like to see more development of volume and highlights in the hair... Good luck! -Kandyman Joe
Thanks! It's true, the hair needs some work, I'm trying to rub in some more white highlights to make it look more waxy-wig like. I really appreciate your comments, criticism from professionals (and non-pro's too) is always welcome! Hopefully I can get a sheet out that is at the very least presentable. ahlyn

Ahlyn...I LIKE IT!!! I love the "pseudo smoke" a coolish effect...is that a pic of your tattoo right next to the geisha?...TAz
Yep, sure is, and thanks for the compliment! That's the first phase of it, it's Telperion the White, one of the Trees of the Valar (how's that for nerdy?) my other side is going to be Laurelin the Golden. ahlyn
What a CLASSY piece of skin art that is...are you doing the other side soon?
here is some flash i have done i have an apprenticeship but here is some flash ive done. not much just some stuff i had on the desk at the time. http://www.inkednation.com/images/user_albums/43/58/PirateWiggins/20061053653.jpg http://www.inkednation.com/images/user_albums/43/58/PirateWiggins/20061053520.jpg http://www.inkednation.com/images/user_albums/43/58/PirateWiggins/2006105352.jpg
Taz- Soon I hope, that's just the first phase of it though, my next appointment is in June, so I might be done with both sides in a year or so.
Can't wait to see it!...Guy is doing the work right?
Ahlyn--you're from C-Town?? I am a frequent reader AND I live in good ol' Clintucky!! Small world darlin! : ) What studio do you work out of? Please tell me it's not Art Coop or anything sweet like that...haha!
oops--scratch that--Art Cor--Not Art Coop *which is an art supply store...art supply/tattoo shop same difference, right? : ) *
Ahlyn- the Geisha looks great!
Thanks for all the compliments guys! I'm not a pro so I don't work out of any studio...yes, Guy is doing the work...Mrs. Peterson...I bet you have a brother named Phil who smells funny and looks weird as well...guess who I am? :^P ahlyn
Oh, and I updated the picture if anyone is interested http://s44.photobucket.com/albums/f10/ahlyn/?action=view¤t=geisha2.jpg
Hey Ahlyn... While you and I have had our little differences I have to say that I find it stimulating to argue with someone with a functional brain! I do always like seeing your posts and surprisingly enough we agree on most subjects to a SCARY degree.. Anyhoo Thanks for sharing the pics and, as I said previously, I am jealous that you have skin to give to Guy and I don't. He is a mutant and I love his endeavors. Although your work is a big departure from his, .and I hate this word, NORMAL modus operandi, he certainly did a fantastic job! You lucky bastard (and I mean that in a good way)! Hope to see more of you on this forum...and cannot wait to see the other side...I presume that Guy is also doing that one..hmmmmm? See Ya !!!!....TAz
Taz- Thanks, I don't mind a good argument here and there, and although I got pretty pissed about what was going on for a little while, life is short, I've got a list of more important things to be worried about, so I'm glad we're burrying the hatchet so to speak. As for the work, I couldn't agree more, and you know that panel is my first tattoo, I guess it's about two feet long and a little less than a foot and half across...you can't really see the whole thing there or I'd have to be naked and as I much as I love the internet I'm not ready for that :P I've got 14 or so hours left to go before the other side. I'm kinda bummed I picked a place I can't really see him work (the twins obscure the view you know) so I guess I'll just have to get more work after the panels!
Ahlyn--no brother named Phil here...Sorry! Maybe you can help me out though--I hear that there is a new tattoo place opening up above the bar that is across the street from Ace Hardware? I think it might be called "Zugs" or something like that? Do you know any truth to this? Apparently, the guy has been working for about 20 years or so and is leaving his shop open from 10:-midnight! Talk about some Clinton BEAUTIES going in there piss-ass drunk from the bar and wanting a portrait of Dale Earndhart or something! hahaha!! This is going to be a revolution...
PS--I do know the Phil you are speaking of, though, and yes he smells/looks funny! Phil the motherf'ng Thrill as we like to call him. : )
Oh no, you wouldn't know him, he isn't a part of the "scene" for a second I thought you were my sister-in-law. We keep our heads pretty low in the Clinton area for obvious reasons. I hadn't heard about the shop opening, although I'm sure there'll be plenty of bikes strewn across the front of the lawn in no time! (Clinton is famous for its bike gangs...no, not motorcycles, people who have gotten DUI's and now need to ride bikes to get to the four bars on the town square, on Sunday there are bikes left on the ground radiating out of the square as people too drunk to ride them abandon them) To be honest I hate this town, the only reason I live here is because I go to Millikin and its better than living in Decatur. In fact, anything is better than living in Decatur. But back to the point, the only people I've had any experience with around this area is Reigning Color in Bloomington, and I'm not even sure they're open anymore. They weren't that great that's for sure, most of their repeat business was from one dude quitting and another dude in the same shop having to then cover up said dude's tattoos. If the new place opens I'll cruise by it at some time, at about 5 mph and shout something at it, as seems to be the custom in the square. ahlyn
